Some questions on new Trex 450 SEv2

Hi all,

I have taken the plunge (after some advice on this forum) and bought a RTF Trex 450SEv2 - supposedly already been test hoevered.

I have a Blade CX2 and a Honeybee CP2 (twitchy little bugger , so I'm not a total, total 'noob' but the Trex is somewhat more complicated (and expensive!) than anything I've flown before.

I have a few questions before I attempt my 1st flight on this little beastie:-

Question 1: I'd like to check the pitch for myself, is the safest way to do this to disconnect the wire from chan. 3 of the receiver (receiver is Futaba 6ch - chan 3 is the throttle) - so I can push the throttle stick through the full range with no chance of the motor kicking in!

Question 2: The receiver is a 2.4Ghz Futaba R606FS with 2 fairlly short antennas - and the little leaflet explains these should be placed at 90 degrees to each other. Currently these are sort of hanging loose point back towards the tail (I'll try & post a pic if I can work it out!). So the question is...should I be securing these wires somehow to try & keep them roughly at 90 degrees? If so any suggestions to what and how ?

Question 3: I have a Futaba 6EX Tx - what setting should I have for the failsafe for the throttle? I would think this should really be set to 0% but the lowest it goes is 16%. Given that if the Rx looses contact with the Tx you are going to crash...surely you don't want the throttle still trying to sping the blades when you are in a heap on the ground?

I will answer Q1, just pull any two of the three motor wires, the one conected direct from the motor to the esc. Then there is no way it can spool up.

Not familiar with Futabas 2.4 stuff but just an observation... notice both aerials come out the back of the RX. Surely if they were supposed to be at 90 degrees to each other then 1 should come out the back and 1 out of the side of the RX??? Probably down to Futabas designs again but anyways... my friend just lets his hang and he doesnt have a problem at all.
On the Spektrum Rx's the 2 little aerials are opposite each other so naturally point the way there supposed to go (see pic).

Lee, those wires on your Rx are really short ! Very neat. I'm only going by the Futaba blurb - I was a bit suprised at how long they are as the ones on my Blade CX2 are really tiny.

Yeh thats just how they are on spektrum Receivers mate... See how one comes out the top and one out the bottom though? On yours they both come out the back but yet Futaba say to mount them 90 degrees to each other? Strange

The bit of the wire that is stripped off at the end is the actual antenna. It is these bits that have to be at 90 degrees to each other.

Before you do anything program in throttle hold and set it so the throttle channel is at zero. Before connecting the battery engage throttle hold then you can connect the battery more safely.

I think you will find that the power to the rx is on the throttle chnnel so if you don't connect it nothing will work.

I have a 450 SEV2 and also use an R606FS and recommend fitting the antennae like this - each at 45 degrees to the frame on both sides:

Been flying it like this since I got it about a year ago and not had a single lockout.

As for the throttle failsafe, don't worry that it shows 16%, that's just the CH3 position, it still means zero throttle to the ESC.

Re failsafe: I added additional info in my post above after seeing your post again

The reason it show 16% is because the throttle channel can be trimmed below minimum stick position, but this doesn't matter as the ESC gets told the actual throttle range when you go into setup mode (ensure you have done this at least once).

The thing about ESC setup is you have to power up with the throttle on full, and the motor connected (it uses the motor to beep). It won't spin up, but be sure you know what you're doing.
