  • Can I have the best of both Trex worlds!

OK, I am still undecided which Trex 600 to buy. The electric or nitro.

Then a thought occurred to me. Could the nitro heli be made to run as an electric or visa versa? Obviously with a change of motors & some electric's etc, or is each kit quite different.

My thought process is that if the main body of the heli along with rx, servos, giro & rota shaft remain, it would be viable to have both an electric and a nitro after a little more spending on parts. Repairs & upgrades would match the 'one' heli fine too. Obviously it would be set it up as a separate model on the tx when altered.

So, is this do-able or would the cost/tweaks not make it worth the effort?

I'm still very new to the hobby, so I'm sorry if this idea is pure drivel.

frames are different, but the head asseembly is the same. for the amount of work involved its just not worth it! Also make sure you read very carefully in to the setup costs of the electric before jumping in feet first!

      Buy both..

There's a hell of a lot of peeps flying both electric and nitro.

That's if your budget reaches that far..

Got a feeling the Atom will join my fleet and I'll have x2 500 size machines, but going to wait and see what everyone says about them 1st.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Trex 600 nitro it is then & I'll build that while learning the skills needed on my twister 3d storm.

              One other question.....
Could a nitro heli be started with a say 12v or 14.4v cordless drill (Bosch/Dewalt) instead of a dedicated heli starter, with the correct hex fitted.
Both drills have nicad batteries & are used with a more constant drain than a car battery. Easily rechargeable too.....

I didn't realise how much fun the variables gave you in this game.......

              Thanks in advance.

This was my decision after much pondering.

I went for the nitro and so glad i did. I have been flying non stop for the last two weeks and would never have got that much stick time with the electric 600. I have flown 7 tanks just this evening!!

I am keen to get involved in an electric machine next for diversity in flying and will go for a 450 or 500... prob a 500!

Thanks Boggy. That'll be a nitro started with a drill driver then.

What about white spirits or paraffin as fuel..... (Joke)

You will see alot of people on here hav pheonix on there signature at the bottom of there posts , get one , thats my advice . There £79 and you will need a good tranny to work it but in honesty you would probably find its the best £79 you would have spent in the first year of entering this hobby , particularly in the winter and rainy days when you cant fly. http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/phoe...1)-p-1893.html

Sound words Jamie.. I bought a DX7 and phoenix on my first trip to the local HS... then the kit and all the bits to get me in the air. without phoenix i would still be bunny hoppin on training gear not flying loops and rolls!!

Anyway... much more fun and realistic than a PS3 or Xbox and i have both now collecting dust!!!
