  • Setting PWM

Another silly question. Where do you get the PWM number, amount, from when programming an electric motor.
I know it stands for pulse width modulation but how do you work the amount out. Motor is KDS 4020-11-00KV on
a 6s Battery. Thanks again for any info. Coming from a 450 size heli to bigger is quite a steep learning curve.

Usually the motor specs will show what PWM and timing settings they recommend. If in doubt start at 8khz and low timing.

Is it this motor: BL4020-1100KV Brushless Motor SHENZHEN KDS MODEL ? I don't see a frequency spec on there but I saw on another site a timing setting of 10 degrees.

    What ESC are you using?

Thanks trillian I am using YEP 150 amp esc. I have set it to 12HZ. The model BL4020-1100KV by KDS is the motor. I have left the govenor settings
and will use those in the Brain FBL............................................... ........................That's what I think should be done lol. Cheers

Motor KV x Volts x motor poles / 20.......... Gives you the figure, you have to round it up or down to the nearest figure available on youre ESC.

          Thanks Alfie.
Works out to 12210, so 1200 PWM is the figure approx.

Yeah in any case it's not going to blow up or anything Just check to see how hot or cool everything is running. Most motors can run on more than one PWM setting. Most of mine have run well on 8khz (which is what the Scorpion motors recommend) but in theory higher is better if the ESC can handle it. You should have plenty of headroom power-wise with that ESC so it shouldn't even break a sweat.

These days I use mostly Kontroniks so I don't actually know what drive frequency it's running at as it adjusts automatically.

Thanks again trillian I'm learning all the time lol Getting close to finishing so the excitement is building. Just the fbl unit to sort out and a
bit of tweaking here and there and hopefully a maiden flight. Cheers
