  • CC pro 20 amp bec connection

Probably a silly question but I am using a CC pro 20 amp BEC and wondered how you connect
to the esc side of the system Is there a special 4 way connector or is it a simple solder job?
I have not used an external bec before and just wondered if there are any snags or things to look for.
Many thanks for any answers, it's most appreciated.

Connect the CC to your fbl unit. This will provide power through the common rail to servos etc. I normally use aux and a spare servo channel. Your esc should connect to the throttle channel on the fbl. Point to note is that if your esc also provides a power supply, disconnect the red wire fron the esc.

When you say the "ESC side" - do you mean the LIPO side, or the FBL side? The BEC doesn't actually connect to the ESC at all !!

Solder the two input leads into youre lipo supply/connector. if using 12s then connect it downstream of the series batt, so it see's 6s.
(BEC Pro has higher continues rating that way).
The two output 'servo connecto plugsr' plug into any power port on youre RX.FBL Unit, (On some FBL unit's 'not all ports are on the power bus').

Thanks for the replies. I was not sure if there was any special connector for connecting the bec to the battery side
of the esc or wether it was just a soldering job. .....................Just a soldering job then by the looks of things. Thanks again.
Just one last question on the size of connectors for the 6s batteries which came with bullit connector 5.5mm I think. I was
going to change them to ec5 connectors but the wires look bigger or to big to go through ec5 but I could be wrong so what is the size
connectors on these 6s batteries ? Thanks againk.

If! youre using (deans) connectors then you can use what's called a jump plug, but it just adds another connection within the supply that can oxidise and cause ohmic contact issues.

If youre using 10 AWG wire or below, then soldering the BEC Pro supply leads in with the lipo connector is very tight! (you need lots of heat and be quick). but still physically tight for most plug's.

I solder mine downstream of the connector itself. I.E 25-50mm before the lipo plug, i strip 10mm section of insulation and Parallel solder them together without breaking into the main cable!.

            Make sense?

Some pics of my Goblin (12s ESC with 6S input to BEC) and 550 (6S heli), both of which use external BECs.

Hopefully it shows that I sliced open the ESC wires and soldered the BEC wires onto them so that they take a direct battery feed. Both setups also have a small EC2 in front of the BEC to allow the BEC to be removed from the ESC wires for maintenance.

EDIT : I do miss tapatalk for taking photos and posting them! Sorry for somewhat random presentation

Thanks Alfie and tomatwalden for pis and info that helps a great deal. This will be my first heli using 6s battery. I did not realise they
were so heavy lol. The wire gauge is enormous I can't EC5 plug being big enough so I may leave on the 5.5mm connectors that come
already fitted. Fine on the soldering of the bec, thanks for the info. Just the main plugs to sort now. Thanks again for taking the time.

If your LIPOs are Turnigys, they are known for use thick gauge wire. There was a thread about this recently. Best advice is to thin the wire a little before you tin it. EC5's really are better than the stock bullets they come with.

FWIW, Haiyin packs have no such problem with EC5's. Nor do any other packs as far as I know - seems unique to Turnigy packs.

                  EDIT : Here's the thread ... http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/batter...onnectors.html

Thanks for that tomatwalden. The problem is not the soldering but fitting the cable into the ec5 housing. I believe the cable goes through the
housing first before soldering them it is pulled back through to snap into the housing. I just can not see that happening lol

No (well, not with the EC5's I use! ??). I solder the connector onto the wire, then push into the plastic housing.

                      like this ...

Yes, I have looked at some of the videos and I can not get the connector to fit in the housing after soldering, even using a hammer and having it very, very hot. I shall now go to plan B.
Thanks for all the info it's very much appreciated.

Update, Well after some very friendly persuasion with the most useful of tools, the Birmingham screw driver lol Job done. I do hope this battery last a very long time lol.
Thanks again tomatwalden for your time and advice. Soon i hope a new chicken will fly. Cheers

I've had some of them and they're shockingly awful to work with. The best ones I've had are the ones electriflyer sell. No idea what brand they are, but they are what most consider to be the norm/good EC5s.
