  • next step, which model

    hi all
    where to start.......
been doing rc for years and years, done nitro/petrol cars, electric/nitro offshore class boats, nitro/electric planes, been flying the medevac for a few weeks inside and out and im pretty much finished with it, can nose in side on, fly 8's, squares, fly circuits backwards side on etc etc
im now looking for a new model, lhs has recommended the thunder tiger mini titan, blade 400, they also have a hopped up titan ( ally head carbon blades etc) second hand. im really looking at electric as i like the plug and play, i dont have time for a club, nearest is to far away, far far too expensive to join and far far too far up there own backsides, and not able to fly when they are able to have someone there i got about £300 to spend

Ask yourself this question, "Why did lhs recommend the tt mini titan?"

A guy at my club has setup a couple of mini titans for a local shop and no matter how hard he tries he is never quite satisfied with the final result. He just can't quite find the ultimate settings.

So the other recommendation is the T-Rex 450S. The kit is about £150 and then you will need the rx, servos and gyro

I'd say go a bit bigger....

but it would blow the budget T-rex 500 larger stable flys okay and not to expensive should you bend it...

T-rex 450 though wins hands down in that size.

      Leeds Model Shop 450v2 is 239 500 is 259

The T-Rex 450 is probably one of the most loved and popular 450 size helis around. For your budget, you'll probably only get the 450S, but you can always upgrade to an SE later.

The main plus point for the T-Rex is that the spares are cheap and really available.

Sure a T-Rex 500 would be more stable, but also loads more expensive, not just for the kit, but also for the larger servos, lipo's, and blades when you break them.

By the sounds of it, you will be more than capable of handling a T-Rex now.

evo andy, as normal i guess they want to shift some stock, strange though spoke to him on phone and he was all over the blade, and popped in today - credit card for saftey, and was pushing the tt titan.
reading on from this post http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/showthread.php?t=10565
if i break the £300 and got trex ill then shell out more on radio/better gyro/ servos etc and ill be over £500 and in to nitro money, nitro is out its too noisy for the garden and local fields, im also going to need a charger as all the gear i got is either 35mhz 4 ch or its 40 3 and 4 channel for the cars/boats/hovers.
i guess thats why i was leaning for the blade etc as its all in box and in budget

the blade isn,t a trex by any sretch but it is a good little heli and has the bonus of dx6i radio! parts are cheap and multi packed.
downside .....it doesn't stand crashes well and has weak servo's

well been in tonight and the titan is full metal upgraded bar 1 bit on the tail has better servos on cyclic and faster on tail, its also got a 401 gyro on it, carbon blades too, but ill either need to get hold of a futaba tx or buy a 2.4 set so that will stand about 360 minus a charger where a box of blade 400 is 260 , so a extra 100 will give better servos/gyro/metal head etc. oh soo confusing

Love my Mini T... it flys hands off... ive set it up very nicely. Is he setting it up correctly? I would have thought you cant go wrong with a Mini Titan for cheapness of parts etc and it flies better than a blade 400. If the specs good then id go for it... See about getting a DX6i and AR6200 from fast-lad for 89.99 and youd be sorted. Only thing is if your a beginner then that metal head might not last that long. Something to think about. Theres plenty pros and cons will all the things mentioned. I usually just go for it if i like it.

My advice on small electric hellis is go 2.4ghz no mater what mate cos my trex 450 had one realy bad prang cos of a glitch with 35 mhz radio . The titan sounds like a good set up depending on the servo brand that is but titans have a little bit of a reputation of a pig to set up . My 450 is set up and thats it . As a beginner i think you will have pleanty to consintrate on other than having to continualy try to get the blades tracking correctly etc.... 450 Trex s are common on here as muck and you wouldn't go wrong getting one . Boggy has reviewed the blade and highly recomends it price for value and i think he knows what he is talking about. If your looking for budget buy and fly id go for the Blade....

Go for the 450S, then one you've learnt how to fly her after possibly breaking a few bits upgrade the plasstic parts to alloy if you want.

Make sure you have good servos like Hitec jobbies, and splash out £100 on a quality Gyro, 401.

The spares are dirt cheap, even for the upgraded parts, and the back up here is second to none.

i have a mini titon its the stock model, its a good heli parts are cheep,& easy to get , if setup right its a real good heli ,and can take a smash well ,one word of advice i can give is ,IMO go 2.4 on tx & dx7 has more on it, if you go for the better tx it will give you more for the future, cheeper tx,s are fine but later on you will be going to buy a better one, so more money on a tx ,that were i am now lol
