the picture you linked to Tom is a DX6i which will work with DSMX.

this is the original DX6 that is stand alone and incompatible. with DSM2 and DSMX
I think we're both arguing the same point Tom just worded differently!

EDIT : If you do buy a second hand DX6i - make sure it's one of the later DSMX compatible models, not the earlier DSM2-only variant.
this was the bit you posted that got me thinking! with that sentence you slashed the S/H value of any forsale

A small quad might me worth considering. Personally I'd recommend a quad over any co-axial heli to a beginner. The co-axials like the s107 really have almost nothing in common to flying a single rotor FP or CP heli, they probably teach you more bad habits than anything. A small quad on the other hand does fly quite like single rotor heli, but has the advantage of 'auto levelling' stability which makes flying very much easier.

PS.. Any DX6 or DX6i that you buy new today will be DSMX. The original DSM version of the DX6 (the one with tiny LCD screen at the top) went out of production several years ago and the DX6i upgraded to DSMX a couple of years ago too, so all new DX6i Tx's today are DSMX. Only if buying second hand might it be an issue, however there is really nothing wrong with the DSM2 DX6i for 99% of users.

because the silver one (the DX6i) comes in two versions, the original DSM2 one and the later DSMX. they are identical except for the communication protocol they use. Either will work fine but the DSMX is the later and slightly more secure protocol. As i said in the last post, if buying new they will all be the later DSMX type anyway.

Have you read the previous posts?my point is both will work why tell people to look for a DSMX ? better protocol or not they both work. For someone searching out a bargain or just testing the water with the hobby DSM2 is fine.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, I didn't advise anyone to look for DSMX???? I specifically said that either would work fine and that there is nothing wrong with DSM2 for 99.9% of users (read my posts again). Many of the guys I fly with fly DSM2 and have no issues at all.

If you can get DSMX at a good price then fine get it, but DSM2 also works good.

Ok, so let me explain my statement about getting a DSMX over a DSM2 DX6i variant. I'm sure most in the market for a 2nd hand DX6i aren't aware of the two different versions (as normally, they are newbies to the hobby - already swamped with too much information). The DSMX variant, being newer and with support for the new protocol is worth more on the 2nd hand market. Personally, I would advise getting the DSMX version since the price difference is likely to be 10 or 20 quid only on a TX that (I'm guessing here!) probably only demands £60-£70 anyway. If somebody wants to pay less and get a DSM2 variant - then that's fine too, and it's personal choice.

But, I don't think people should be unaware, and potentially pay DSMX prices for a DSM2-only radio. So, it wasn't my intention to slash prices of any DSM2 radio currently for sale, but I do think the DSM2 should be cheaper than the DSMX version anyway!

Anyway after researching and wondering which to buy I have now taken the plunge and got myself a rtf Msrx
hopefully will help me to stay interested in the hobby and be a decent upgrade from the s107g
will still be on a lookout for a dx6i and already planning my next upgrade unless I can upgrade the Msrx to help me further Lol...now where did I see that blade 120rs???????

Well done Karlo, you're on the slippery slope already. I know it's not the done thing but read the manual and find how to get your transmitter into the 'beginner's' mode. I think you push vertically down on the right hand stick but can't be sure as I'm not at home. It'll tame things down slightly, not enough though, for those first few flights until you get a DX6i when you can really tame it. It's all relative though, in a couple of months you'll be looking for your first CP heli :-)

                                Thank you Euclid
its your fault if this does not work out!!!! Lol
did you do any mods or left it as is ??
Also what spares will I need to purchase and what will be the best battery for extra flight time via your experience of this helicopter??

omg !!! I have not even got the helicopter and thinking of a nano Cpx already too........

would mainly be indoor flying due to weather over here but would like the occasional outdoor flying hence the next one will be an nano . Unless you experts think otherwise????
