  • How many channels?

Hi there I need help. I currently use a dx6i with my 4503d and planks. I came across a comment saying if I were to use 3gx I would need at least 7 channels. Would beastX only need 6? I've been looking at getting a 450x or a trex 500 FBL 2nd hand. Why would I need a 7,7+ channel tx? What are the channels assigned to?

Six channels will be enough for beast x on a 500.

Under what circumstance will a dx6 not be enough?

Sorry my mistake, I just looked at the beast x manual at at least you have a minimum of 7 channels for the use of ppm receiver. If you can purchase a radio of more than 7 channels, that will be preferable as in the future you might need the extra channels to run lights etc if you plan on doing scale. When purchasing radio, the more channels the better. I repeat, minimum is 7.

According to the description the 450x has a flybarless controller that has a built-in receiver so the dx6i will be fine. If you are planning to run the beast x (orange one) with a separate receiver, your 6 channel radio will not be enough.

Thats the question I was asking few months ago when I had Dx6i and I got my answer shortly after. While 3gx will work fine with Dx6i, it needs receiver hooked up to a 3gx.

To run the setup with satellites only you need 7+ channels radio because 3gx will assigns channel 5 to the governor and ch7 to the tail gain. Thats where 7th channel comes into play.

Can someone briefly explain what a governor is? Sorry if that's really dumb. But a 3gx could be run on 6 if you used a seperate reciever for example.

Will other fbl units require 7 channels? Or is it just the 3gx?

See here Governor - RC Helicopter Wiki

Yes 3gx will work fine with 6ch radio as long as you have separate receiver, thats the way I was running it on my 450 pro when I had Dx6i.

I don't know about the other FBL units as I only ever had experience with Align 3gx.
