  • Looking for copter with payload

    Hi all

Fairly new newbie here. I have a little quad copter with camera but crashed it badly, I also have a micro standard copter, and its far easier to fly around the office, heaps of fun.

I have looked at getting a nitro copter, but the are very expensive and require significant maintenance, so I am looking for an electric rc helicopter large enough to be able to carry a payload of 800g or less.

Can anyone suggest a place I can get such a copter (not quad) that wont destroy my bank account.

hi, can you/have you flown a large cp electric heli? If not I think it might be wise to learn to fly em before jumping in with a weight attached to it

Thanks, I have flown a slightly larger helicopter, around a foot in length as I recall, and obviously i would be learning to control the copter before adding additional weight

If you want to carry a cam or similar then a 600 size is realisticly where I would start.

As above if you havent or dont know how to fly a full cp (collective pitch) heli learn on a smaller machine with the help of a sim.
mabey even start with a sim.

If you worry that much about cost than. I suggest model helicopters are not for you

I wrote in another thread but several years ago I mounted a camera and arm onto a stock raptor with an os 50 hyper engine in it and it flew fine. The rig was 1.1kg. As I was curious I kept adding weight to the Heli to see what it's max lift was. According to reflex xtr sim the Heli would lift around 3kg. I strapped 3 kg to it and it lifted but would not climb past about 1m of the ground (I guess on the edge of ground effect)

Why are you specifically looking for a helicopter rather than a quad?

If your aim is to carry a camera for filming then there are very few reasons to prefer a heli over a quad.

If it isn't a camera you want to carry then you should give us some idea what it is you are trying to do so the advice can be more useful ...
