  • Replacement motor

The motor on my hk 450gtpro2 is slowly dying of bearing failure. What size Align motor will fit into this heli?
I'm not sure if I should get 1700kv or the 3400kv. I run 3s lipo system. Any suggestions would
    be gratefully received. Thanks

You want something like an align 450 m or mx 3400kv , the 1700 is for 6 cell setup

As above my 3400kv 450mx is over two years old and still rocking occasional drop of oil on the bearings is all it's had

Thanks both for the info. I wasn't sure which one to get. The old Turnigy motor is on its last
legs by the sound of it and getting very hot, time for a replacement. Thanks

there is always the option (well usually the option) of replacing the bearings.

Thats likely to cost you less than a fiver, and may be worth a go.

If you don't want to try to replace the bearings yourself, there is someone who can do it for you at a reasonable charge.

Thanks gents. I was not sure you could replace the bearings. This is a Turnigy motor and I do not know where to obtain spare bearings. I will strip it
down and have ago. Anything to save a few bob, money is very tight at the mo. Now where is that big hammer. lol Thanks

If you send me through some photos on this thread, I will walk you through the replacement process.

rcbearings are my favourite, just google them. Very quick to dispatch and not expensive at all, for good quality bearings.

you will need to make sure that your shaft isnt worn though, as that may be more difficult to replace

Thanks for the offer jimmyhorns very kind of you. I managed to strip it down, quite easy really, just on little clip holding every thing in.
I have popped the bearing out. Looks very much like the bearings in the heli head. It seems to run okay but it is getting very hot and squeals
when motor slows down. I am assuming of course it is the motor bearing, everything else seems to be free and running smoothly. I will change the bearing
and replace the motor and see how things go. Many thanks for you help and kind offer. Cheers

I have to agree in this case £8 for a brand new motor is a no brainier

                          I have to disagree here.

Firstly its not cheaper, its £8 + postage, which from the UK warehouse is about £6, compared with ~£3 if you buy the bearings.

Its not easier, as if you are not in then you will have to go and pick up the parcel, which is more fuel, and more time, whereas the bearings will be popped through your letter box. If you have already taken the motor apart its a 5 min job to refit the new bearings and reassemble.

So its cheaper, probably quicker, and you get the benefit of fixing something rather than just tossing it away into landfill, and of course the smile because you fixed it yourself
