Hi from thanet....couple of ....noob questions ;D

Hey guys, so, I flew my mates little syma thing a while back, thought it was pretty cool and ended up buying a tiny apache (im not really into these sporty looking things tbh! ), then bought its slightly bigger brother which ive had a few problems with! (I had a tinker with it and it works.....most of the time!) And last night I ordered symas big Chinook (I cant wait!).

Basically, I want to change the transmitter strength, am i right in thinking that that will give me more range? Sorry, as I said, im a complete noob!

Also, im looking for an even bigger apache, ive found another syma (s023g) which is their biggest apache, but I really want.......a MUCH bigger one, I take it you have to build the big copters yourself?

Any tips on increasing range and battery life would be greatly appreciated! sorry its a long first post!

The only way you will increase transmitter range is to buy a "proper" transmitter from the likes of Spektrum, Futaba, JR etc.

Hi mate, it's good that you want to get into RC Helicopters and that the 'Syma' has given you a taste to whet your appetite

However, the Syma range really are very poor quality toys and won't give you anything like the flying experience of a 'real' RC Helicopter. The best thing you could do is find out where your nearest Heli club is and go and have a chat to some of the guys & gals there.

You would be better spending your money on a small, reasonable quality beginner Heli that would give you more of an idea on how to control it properly. Something like the 'Eflite blade 120SR' would be fine. The contra rotating blades on the Syma and the low quality components don't give you a real flying experience!

Bigger 'real' RC Helicopters are all self build unless you go for a secondhand one, but then you still need to know what you are doing so that you can check it is safe! And they all need a certain level of competence to fly safely as they can be FATAL if used incorrectly.

The best advice I can give is to visit a decent Model shop where you can get good advice (face to face) and find out where your nearest club is!

Like you Froster I started with a little Syma thing and also like you had 'cracked' it within minutes. Up scaling that type of model won't bring you any further challenges though, you'll soon get bored with its simplicity. I agree with Dave's advice above and will throw in another model, a Blade mSRx, to get you started on what is a fun but expensive path. Why the mSRx? Simply because of its ability to soak up crashes which you'll do a lot of in the early stages! The next step on your learning curve is YouTube, you'll find lots of information and inspiration there and a great deal more to confuse you. Stick with it and don't rush, I'm a lot nearer my bus-pass than my O-levels and thoroughly enjoying this journey, good luck.

If you are in Thanet, our club is close by pop along any weekend (when the weathers good) there will be someone flying
You will see electric and nitro's of all sizes flying,
should give you an idea of which route you'ed like to take if you do want to take up this sport
Not sure if we are taking on members at the moment but there will be free advice and help

thanks guys, i will look into those models mentioned . i saw a video on youtube of a guy flying a huuuge chinook, im assuming he would of built that himself? i need a big apache like that! . im interested to see how different it would be to fly a proper rc heli, you can do almost anything with a syma and it wont lose control lol. thanks again guys
