  • Hello!

    Hi folks,

I have been lurking as a guest here for a couple of weeks and I felt like it was time to register and say hello

A long time ago in my teens I flew fixed wing stuff but I was always more interested in helicopters. Since leaving that learned to make an Ikarus Piccolo go more or less where I want it to and have had some experience with Easy Copters and their close relatives.

Lately I felt I wanted a change from my usual hobbies so I thought it was time to get a better class of helicopter (the Piccolo gyro died anyway ) I did some reading here and on Heliguy and found that the T Rex 450 was a good machine.

I have been building a 450S CF all last week along with learning how cool the DX7 is

    Thats me anyway *waves*

                Thanks everyone

I am happy to keep hearing good stuff about the 450 I felt the SEv2 was prettier but I know this machine will have pretty frequent liaisons with the ground so I will get shiny bits when I break the plastic ones.

I am at the stage now where the airframe is together and everything is ca'd or threadlocked and this afternoon I soldered the bullet connectors to the motor and ESC.

I have been wondering weather a hitec HS5925 high speed digital servo would be usable on the tail, its pretty big and heavy but I am sure I have seen a standard size servo on a TRex somewhere else. I get the feeling I should have bought a GY401 and one of the futaba servos but I kinda wanted to keep the whole lot under £500 with a DX7 which I just about managed. I ended up getting a CSM SL310 as a gyro but no special servo to suit :/ After some more reading I think I will be picking up Phoenix too, I have been playing on FMS - its better than nothing but not by much by the sound of it :P

Its no big deal for now anyway, I will be happy to get a decent hover. My future interests lie in scale stuff more than aerobatics.

I started with FMS and it gives you a reasonable insight into orientations and the use of the sticks, however once onto Phoenix you will come on leaps and bounds as the whole system is technically excellent and very accurate.

you get to use your DX7 and the REX 450 is on there so you can practice to your hearts content!

I think most on here would agree this should be your next purchase!!

Yep I was pretty much decided on that

FMS is very limited but has helped with some stuff, my favourite model is the Cobra. I tend to find I allow helicopters to drift in yaw as I barely ever touched the rudder when flying planks and I am used to making things point in a certain way using the right stick rather than the left but I will get used to it
