  • Throttle/Elevator

    Hello everyone.
About 3 second in to my first flight, I crashed. Sad thing was I wasn't planning to fly it.
I suspect the controls aren't set up correctly, which is what I would like some advice about.

The left stick is marked throttle and when moved forward and backward the stick will remain in the position you set it.
Now that I have broken the helicopter and learnt how to unplug the power to the blades, I can see that this stick tilts the plate forward and backwards.

I was expecting this stick to move the whole plate up an down which would have the effect of tilting the rotor blades and generating more lift.

    What should this stick do?

    I have a Twister CPX

This appears to be a 6 ch Collective Pitch heli, so the swash (plate) movement is wrong. You are correct.
The left stick should control both throttle and collective pitch i.e. swashplate up / down, via a couple of programmable things called pitch curve and throttle curve.
The right stick forward / backward should tilt the swash forward / backwward.
Deffo set up wrong I would say.
BTW welcome to the forum / madhouse !

Hey trueblue, go through the set up in the manual, transmitter and heli, you need to reverse one or more of the servo directions, depending which transmitter you have, you will have either change a + to a - or switch an r to n. It sounds like the elevator needs switching. Yes left stick should make swash go up and down, and rudder go left and right. Right stick, swash should follow stick movement ie tilt forward, backward, left and right.

I wondered that, but I assume mode 1 doesn't mix throttle and cyclic elevator on the same stick...Never used mode 1..If the left stick has a ratchet, then must be mode 2 IMHO

based on the manual, it is mode 2, as the throttle hold switch is on the right of the right of the controller.
The manual says the throttle hold switch will be on the left if it is mode 1.
Thank you everyone for your comments.
Is this a common problem with ready to fly helicopters that have allegedly been tested?

I am seriously considering requesting the shop pay the repair bill, but can only do that if this setup is unheard of .

Just to clarify, the left stick tilts the plate forward and back, and adjusts the tail rotor. The stick on the right adjusts the throttle/rotor pitch and tilts the plate right and left.

So if the sticks are mode 1 but the throttle hold switch is where the manual says mode 2 is, then it's not right and you should be able to take it back.

The shop are taking going to take it back, just need to confirm that with the owner tomorrow. I haven't even flown yet but I feel like a kid before christmas , I want to fly now! I say fly but everything I have read says I will crash, but I am still looking forward to it.

SIMULATOR!!!! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! Then, find a nice shiny surface indoors, clear of obstacles like a wood floor. Then practice sliding the helicopter in all four directions of the compass and also the diagonals in between. This will give you the feeling for the way a heli sits at an angle when hovering in one spot, the simulator can't seem to reproduce this? then start to hover... when you are veeeery comfortable, but don't hang around near the floor where the rotor creates turbulence, you need to pop it up in to the calm air about 2 feet off the ground. By the way, I would only fly small heli's in doors 6-10 inch dia rotor max. If you practice hovering the real thing from scratch, ideally you need someone to teach you or it will begin to cost a lot and can be frustrating!

Just get it set up right first - assuming u want to fly mode 2, make sure tthe swash tilt follows the right hand stick, and collective and throttle follow the left hand stick.
Get the seller to fly it around the shop...
                        Then start practice sliding etc.
