Thanks for the welcome guys, I was initially thinking of getting one of these
The ESky Honey Bee V2 - 4 channel RC helicopter is excellent for both indoor and outdoor flight - weather conditions permitting - It's the best beginner helicopter by far! An ideal starting point for learning the skills of helicopter flying.
However after some consideration I went for a 130X as I wanted something small enough to hover in the lounge and fly in the garden.
Have been using the SIM mostly though as really I’m finding even the 130X is too big for the lounge and I’ve already bust the tail boom by backing it into the furniture.
The SIM does indeed save crash costs as I’ve got a 95% crash ratio !!!!!! Fortunately I find the 130x much more controllable in real life than on the SIM.
One issue I’ve had with Phoenix is the receiver I bought with SIM stick Pro doesn’t seem to work very well don’t know if you guys have found this to be the case as well ?
Now I’m looking for something a little larger for when the weather improves not sure what to go for at the moment but thinking of something about 30 inches long, any suggestions would be welcome.

                Johnny B

You'll thank your lucky stars you didn't go with the Honey Bee. It's widely recognised as being one, if not, the worst "beginners" heli out there. The 130X is a much better heli, but it's more of an advanced heli to be honest although it is possible to learn with it - especially when used with a simulator too!

I wouldn't fly a 130x in the house though! WAY TOO POWERFUL for indoors! If you want an indoor heli, consider a fixed pitch heli like the msr/msrx in fixed pitch, or the nano-CPX in collective pitch.

I've tried that Nano on Phoenix but it seems a bit naff, is the real one any better ?

To be honest, Phoenix doesn't mimic the micro helis well at all. In fact I'd go as far as to say don't bother will small helis on Phoenix at all. I found that anything smaller than a 500 on Phoenix doesn't reflect real life well at all - stick to 500 and above on the sim.

The nano-CPX has its faults - the motor being the main one as they are prone to conking out way too quickly. There's a new brushless kit out for it now though which takes care of that. Flying-wise though, I found the nano-CPX to fly really well - despite its small size. If you want to fly a collective pitch heli inside the house (assuming you're not already a demi-god of a pilot), I think it's almost the only serious option.

Anyway, in answer to your question - the real one is much, much better than the virtual one in Phoenix.

I can vouch for the msrx as an indoor trainer, only damage so far is a much shorter orchid and a very pee'd off wife!

Went for the Ncpx didn't fancy a fixed pitch heli, didn't want to pick up bad habits and I can set the pitch curve with the TX if needed anyway.
The Nano is no where near as stable as the 130x but it is better suited to indoors flying, only problem I have is I can't seem to flip it over as it seems a little under powered.

I'm now considering the Mcpx BL !

mcpx/BL has bonkers power and is only fractionally smaller than the 130x. I found the ncpx to be OK with flips - albeit I only tried them outside ...
