  • Time for the towel revisited

Some time ago I wrote to this forum asking if it was time to throw in the towel regarding flying rc collective pitch helicopters. Well,
I would just like to keep anyone interested up to date. I did not throw in the towel and have indeed progressed to forward flight, nose in and what passes
as very rough figure eights. The upside to all this is that last week the cat left the house never to be seen again and I have not seen the other half for at least
a month. Not to sure if she still resides at this address. Oh and yes last but not least I was declared bankrupt last Tuesday. I also hear on the vine
That the last ship leaving Hong Kong the whole crew of that ship were chanting my name. Some one told me that all this can be put down
    to the PE's pilot errors

Nice to hear things have turned out so well for you...nose in is a big milestone let alone figure of eights keep the good work up and dont worry about the little upsets that plague us all from time too time....

Glad to hear you persevere with it, at times it becomes very difficult and ive often thought about it myself. But you just keep going and it gets better and better.

Nose-in was a real problem for me until I read the answer elsewhere. Imagine you are balancing an upturned broom on the open palm of your hand. If the broom head falls to the right you naturally move your hand to the right. Left your hand goes left, away from you your hand goes away etc. The helicopter is the broom head, your hand is the cyclic. After a couple of batteries with this in mind nose-in became natural. All I need now is help with flying side-on

                  Well Done for persevering,
The great things about flying rc heli's are,
Once you've learnt 1 move there's another waiting for you to conquer,
Pilots that are fly at a more advance level than you have been exactly where you are & know how hard it is..
I went a bit stagnant last year and didn't progress no where near as much as I wanted to...
But I'm going to give it a big push...
                  Keep up the progression mate....

Thanks for all the nice replies from you all. It's practice, practice and practice again. I'm not a better flier but my recovery from near crashes has improved
greatly. Where once it would be in the dirt I have gain the good habit of just recovering when my thumbs do their own thing LOL. Great fun if not a
little hard on the wallet. I must be getting a little better because I'm looking for a bigger field so I can fly without worrying about the odd lamp post LOL.
Thanks again, comments are really appreciated. Cheers

In answer to Mark_R1 Yes I have a simulator, I use the free version of Heli-X only because of the fact I'm a tight old buggar. It's okay but I'm
at the stage where it's not really helping I find the real thing far better and what I need is lots of stick time but the weather of late here is awful
so I fly the sim just to keep my muscle/memory going but I'm not disciplined enough I'm afraid. Roll on the Summer but mustn't grumble as they say. Cheers
