Buying IC heli

Hey, well i've been training through phoenix for about a year now and i'm fully competent with the characteristics of the models provided. I've been saving a little cash over the winter to spend on some sort of hobby over the summer and decided i might invest in a small IC heli.
However i'm a full time student and those of you that have been at this stage will know how hard up for cash you can be so my budget is limited. I've already ruled out the possibility of buying a Raptor 30 due to first and second hand prices.
So i'm not really sure what i can get on a shoe string budget. Ideally i would like a 30 size heli, as for radio's, nothing too elaborate to save costs.
I've been looking at second hand heli's but i have no idea what to buy, so i'm in need of some help.
First of all, how much should i be spending on an entry level 30 size heli? and second, what models should i be looking at?

sorry, but you need to find a 30 raptor at a decent price.
Post a link to any you find on here, and you will be advised if it is any good (at the risk of others then outbidding you).
Realistically to get a resonable setup with tx and rx you are going to need £350 or more.

Obscure helis may sell cheaper, but they will work out more expensive to fix when you need spares.

Maybe you already have a tx as you are driving phoenix somehow.

Let's not pull any punches here. This is an expensive hobby. You should view the money you spend on a hobby as money you can afford to lose. i.e. truely disposable income. At least your thinking appears to be long term though as you want an out door model.

The Raptor 30 is a proven model and well woth considering. You should consider getting at least a 7 channel radio. There should be some good 35MHz sets second hand because people are switching to 2.4GHz.

Best to join a Club and get someone thats knows a bit about heli's to go with you and look the machine over if your going 2nd hand.

hey thanks for all your replies and support, i understand what an advantage the raptor offers as a beginner however looking at the second hand value of these heli's it doesn't look as though they are much less than brand new ones. I estimated that i could purchase a first hand model with radio for approximately £400 at a push but looking on ebay and the various classified ads they seem to be going for around £300-£350 which seems slightly odd. The one listed on ebay that somebody mentioned earlier went for £165 though so i'm not sure really what's a good deal and what's pulling my trousers down.

How much should i be spending on a rtf 30 size heli would you recommend?

Treat starting nitro heli's a a hobby.. like a saving account

buy the kit.. then motor and gyro and so on..

Unlesss you see the heli fly and know what heli's are are about

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING unless you want to spend more money putting to right someone's problem.. WHICH IS NOW YOURS
