All very good but there's more to add..

Collateral Damage could be caused with too much Heat

Don’t say a Word if you make a mess of it or Disturbing Behavior could be seen

Just take care when soldering or you could be Gone In 60 Seconds

ok on bullets buti think 18w is going to struggle with deans connectors.

Cheers for that Ron! I havent used it yet so will take it back and hopefully exchange it for the cheaper 30W earlier in this thread.

Would that gas one handle Deans aswell as the bullets?

yes my little gas one will do deans quite well but they do burn up tips quickly.(and fingers) the heat from the flame exits sideways out of the gun above the tip so working close hurts!!!

                      I have one of these:

                      http://cpc.farnell.com/duratool/zd-9...lug/dp/SD01120

purchased on discount for £25 and its great, I usually work at about 325-350C using leaded 60:40 solder - cant be doing with lead free, useless stuff IMHO and you have to run the iron hotter (400-450).

I have a large selection of tips to work with SMT components, through hole components, wiring etc... A very nice budget iron, but quite fancy a hot air re-work station now as my SMT projects are becoming more common.

not so much of a hobbyist one, but I use a Metcal one. The RF heater element seems to never drop in temperature no matter what you solder with it. They do come up on eBay from time to time.
