Or even better which is free! Have a look at Finless Bobs videos on HF. I have built and learnt to setup a few Helis from watching his videos also.
      Cheers,
      Grant.

Just watched the smarter every day vids and have a little better understanding of how a helicopter flys also watched some vids about cp vs fp and how they work

why on cp does the rpm go to half way then starts to lift and not just lift when you want it to ?

                  still slightly confused haha

It doesn't. Think of it this way - there are five things you need to control - rotor speed, collective pitch, yaw (tail), elevator (cyclic), aileron (cyclic).

The problem is, the transmitter only gives you four degrees of freedom - left stick left/right , left stick up/down , right stick left/right , right stick up/down.

So you have a control input missing! Modern transmitters get around this by mixing two of the functions (motor speed and collective pitch) on the same physical control (left stick up/down).

So, as you move the left stick up/down, these two functions are changed. HOW they are changed is defined by two curves - the THROTTLE curve and the PITCH curve - both defined in the radio. So, as you move the left stick up, throttle is increased according to the throttle curve, and collective pitch is increased according to the pitch curve. In this way, the left stick does both functions.

The point of all this is that both the throttle and pitch curves are user definable. For example, in "idle up" mode, the throttle is fixed at a given headspeed regardless of the stick position, and the stick only controls the blade pitch (hence why CP helis can fly upside down).

Most people run their CP helis with equal amounts of both negative and positive pitch - to allow full control when inverted. Hence, the point at which the blades change from negative to positive pitch is normally mid-stick, or half-way.

A different throttle or pitch curve would change this however, and beginners often have more positive than negative to make learning easier.

                    HTH. Tom
