  • Advice on which battery please!!

    Hi Guys

I'm new to heli's and completely hooked! Bought a Belt CP and loving it, but I only get about 7 minutes out of a charge (11.1V, 1800mAh) - just about enough time to settle down and that's it! I'm looking to upgrade. Anyone got any tips on what to buy for longer flight times?

I'm not sure I've been getting a full charge, as the manual says not to charge for longer than 2hrs, but the charger has not yet told me the battery is fully charged (the green flashing charge light is supposed to glow continuous when fully charged, but that's not yet happened, even after a cautious 150 minutes) I hope someone will put me right, but I was under the impression that charge time = capacity / charger output ? (ie for a charger output of 0.8A, an 1800mAh battery should charge in 2.25hrs)?!?

    Is my charger faulty?

    Thanks for any advice

    Hi Phil,
I am a novice myself so dont take this for gospel, but I think you are right the charge times for your 1800mah battery charging at 0.8a would be 145mins, so perhaps when you left the charge for 150mins it was just about finished!

my mini titan gives me about 6 1/2 minutes on a 2200 mah pack.

      It's one of those E-Sky balancers ?

I've always left them on until the indicators say the battery is fully charged.

The circuitry in the balancer is supposed to charge each LiPo sell in your battery separately (but at the same time), and ensure they aren't overcharged.

        Thanks scallybert

Yes it's an Esky charger and I think it's pretty c***. Looks like I'm gonna have to splash out on a decent charger as well as better batteries!

Anyone know what is suitable for a Belt CP?

The chargers that come with E-Flite Blade CX2s seem pretty much the same as the earlier E-SKy chargers (these were solid green when charging, light goes off when charged).

I reckon the later E-Sky chargers are actually better than these E-Flite ones. Given that I have a high opinion of E-Flite (they are part of Horizon, who AFAIK own Spektrum, JR, etc) I don't think the charger you have is too bad.

This may be a contentious view.., but at least it's a balancer.

            Thanks again

I guess I'm just impatient! - could do with charging it quicker (but don't want to risk fires, as I've heard these LiPos can be abit dodgy if you overcharge them)

Also I'd love to get more time on the sticks before the juice runs out!
