  • got a blade msr, whats next?

hi guys, ive had a blade msr for a coupe of months now and seem to of mastered it pretty well indoors, ive also just brought a dx6i which is brilliant

im looking to upgrade to something new, im hoping to have a heli that can be used outdoors. what do you think of the blade 400? or is this to big a step? if so is it worth getting the msrx and using that indoors for a while before i move on to the bigger stuff.

    Thanks
    James

p.s anyone from the Wiltshire area? would be nice to go and have a look at a local club meet

Hi, I would advise that you get the biggest you can on your budget, the bigger they are the easier and more stable they fly. A good step up would be a 500 size like the Trex or Gaui, I have a goblin 500 and prefer that to my Goblin 700, whatever you decide to go for have fun, stay safe and good luck. :-)

i went blade 400 after msr, and yes it is a big step at first..... fixed pitch to collective is a big jump, but you just need to take that jump and expect to crash a few times, but you will get it. use the sim before you try it with the blade and you should crash less. the blade 400 is getting on a bit now (like well worn, unless you can find low milage one). People on here will not look so favourably on it, and indeed there are many better helis out there, but it will be cheap to repair and will take you to the next level for sure.

think trex 500 though as the cheap allrounder these days

Trex 500 fbl is where I started after the mcpx , best allrounder with a nice size disc an still cheap to repair.

Yes - there's a few of us who fly at Westbury most weekends (just below the Westbury White Horse). If you want to pop down, send me or Graham (heathy on this forum) a PM.

Trex 500 all day long, I went the Blade 400 route for a bit and ended up with a trex 500 which I loved. There very cheap to repair and theres always a good stock of parts available. Batteries are also good value.

I agree with Rob above. The Trex500 is a very good value heli - ironically, I've just sold mine as it didn't get enough flying now I've got some bigger helis. You might find however - since you seem to be outside of a club - that going straight to a Trex500 from an mSR is too big a jump? You may not - everyone's different!

From your stage, I actually got two new helis. A Blade 450 and a Blade mCPX. They both taught me different things at the time. The 450 started to teach me about bigger helis - being not getting too scared of the disc and getting used to their presence in the air.

The mcpx became my real life sim as a collective pitch heli. I used the practice new stuff on the mcpx before moving those skills up to the 450. Now I use the 450 to try new stuff before the larger helis. Same trick, just different sizes.

For what it's worth, I think 450's are really nice helis. The modern ones with FBL units are much easier to fly (and definitely easier to repair!) than then old flybarred ones.

If you do think about going bigger than a 450 - I would say that you really need to think about finding a club! 500's and upwards are getting to be quite serious peices of kit to be flying in your local park!

PM replied - rather than look on ebay - look in the "for sale" section on this forum or the BMFA classifieds site. Ebay is a last resort IMO ...
