At that price it's a really good choice.

I didn't mean to be rude or joke but in this hobby is there really such a thing as indestructible? We crash we all crash and all the time! It's part of learning and blades chip snap break, gears strip, shafts bend, threads strip, frames and canopies crack it's part and parcel unfortunately. Saying that I have an mcX2 that's still in good shape. I think if it's small enough and built to be robust it will survive a fair beating. A bit like me dropping a spider from my bedroom window watching it glide to the ground 15ft below and walking off! If I did the same I'd break both my legs even more if we made the distances relative to size! If the link is a first time heli then why not! For that price it's more than reasonable enough to get a four channel heli to start the huge path on learning to fly. It they get hooked then they can go from there. If they soon realise it's not for them then it's not a huge waste of funds. I think you will find it fun! I started with a £12, 3 channel syma from ebay was great and I soon got the bug, I then got a larger 3 channel that was sold to me as indestructible, on the first flight it stripped one of the main gears. So don't be dissapointed if it does crash and need fixing.Oxy 2, 180cfx, 130X

i like how the flat screen is covered with towelsOriginally posted by Delarado View PostJust to add as well, often when it comes to helicopters "more difficult to fly" translates to "more capable"
Its a bit like a vauxhall corsa and a ferrari. The corsa will be easier to drive, but nowhere near as capable or impressive.
To illustrate, here is a fixed pitch helicopter:
And here is a collective pitch (Flown by a very skilled pilot, better than me and I've been flying for two years now)
ha ha blade scratches on the screen are hell to get off! Go on ask me how I know

Ok, this is freaking me out! I hope you can see this one anyway because I want to say thanks for all the advice. I know how annoying it is having a newbie appear on your forum asking for the impossible! I guess I knew that the 'virtually indestructible' helicopter was a bit of wishful thinking. It raised a red flag that it wasn't a known brand. I will avoid 'menkind' like the plague - thanks for that! I did browse quadcopters but I really wanted to get a more traditional helicopter as my brother used to dream of being a pilot.
I like the look of the Blade £50 model, think it is. Please keep suggestions coming!
Sorry for any typos - don't know if this site or my PC but something really playing up!Last edited by LittleSister; 04-12-2013, 07:27 PM.

Just to check, you think I'm right to be looking for 4 channels? I wish I knew whether he was going to get really into it or just mess around with the thing for a few days then shove it in a cupboard! He is very technically minded though so I didn't want to insult him with a 'toy'. On the other hand it would be terrible if he smashed the thing before New Years! It'd bring back traumatising memories of the Christmas Santa brought him a Hornby train, and it was broken...Last edited by LittleSister; 04-12-2013, 07:26 PM.

4 channels is right. 3 channels would be next to useless. 6 channels (collective pitch) would be too steep a learning curve.
The ready to fly Blade MSRx that somebody posted earlier would be an excellent first heli.
EDIT : The Blade msrx was posted at £60, not £50 as you mention above - but it includes the (mode 2) transmitter, so well worth it!
