  • Novice requires much appreciated assistance

I have recently purchased a HK 450 Helicopter used but stated as in new condition with upgraded alloy main rotor and tail rotor , I feel a little duped as I purchased it believing that when I rec the item I could begin to practice using the anti crash kit supplied, as the person I purchased it from stated that it flies and has only been used a few times it came with charger batteries canopy etc, however no Controller I asked where the controller was to be told it did not come with one!!! a long story but a play on words and misrepresentation by the other party....Any way I now have this helicopter and cannot attempt to use at this time.. Having looked on it there is connected a Spektrum DSM2 RECIEVER. I have put a charged battery on and there was movement on rotor head so at least that's something I HOPE, I would like to know if I purchased a 2.4ghz Spectrum dx6i mode 2 controller would I be able to use the helicopter as it has the Spektrum 6 channel receiver? will the controller pick up the receiver once turned on or is there anything else I am required to do. I am obviously very disappointed at present and would like to attempt to learn and continue with this hobby any positive assistance regarding my dilemma would be very much appreciated

Yes, if you buy a Dx6i then you can bind it to your receiver with a simple process. But you would need to do a set up on the helicopter and dx6, if you are a novice, i would get help with this.

You sound surprised that there was no controller with the kit? To be fair, you should have double checked everything that was included in the deal so you knew what you were getting for a start....

Helicopters like this do not come with a controller. They are bought in kit form by people that usually have all the radio gear ready to go. UNLESS... it clearly stated it did include the controller in the ad.

As above, yes the DSM2 receiver will bind fine to a Spektrum DX6i controller. To be honest, this is kind of normal for helicopters of this class. Most second hand ones assume you have your own controller. Bear in mind that one transmitter can be used for many helicopters, so most people will buy/sell helicopters but keep their transmitter.

Learning to fly helis isn't simple however, and there is no such thing as an "anti-crash kit". You can have training skids, which help to a greater or lesser degree in the early stages, but they are a LONG WAY from being anti-crash!

Take a look at the flight school vids on : How To Fly RC Helicopters
Consider a simulator ... eg. Phoenix model flight simulation :: Welcome

Hi many thanks for you reply, it was a play on words being a novice I asked if it had a receiver to fly he just said yes, and I am sure the person knew what I meant meaning the actual controller, as I stated I am a complete novice and in the advert it stated it has been flown and that he no longer uses it and did not state that it did not come with it as I would not of proceeded with the purchase..so lesson learnt about genuine and honest persons! Anyway will battle on and hopefully get sorted thanks again Dave

To be fair, if somebody asked me the same question "does it have a receiver?" ... I would have answered yes too. It does indeed have a receiver! You meant transmitter of course, but his misunderstanding isn't unbelievable as the question you asked is entirely reasonable too.

Sure NP, try and do what you can do and if you can't get your head around it give me a shout, often just having someone you can ask if something is correct is sufficient, camera would be good to with skype, not that I want to see you mug but your heli (-:

                      Welcome to the forum.

As others have indirectly stated you made the mistake about the transmitter im afraid. If I was buying a helicopter like that, I wouldnt expect it to come with a transmitter. You asked whether it had a receiver and the answer was yes - completely truthful, and not a play on words.

I have several helicopters, and many more receivers for my rc planes, but only one transmitter, and this is pretty normal behaviour. A 450 class helicopter is no longer the toy in a box in 'gadgetland', but a model, and a buyer should have different expectations.

Sorry, but in this instance it was your mistake, rather than the seller not being genuine and honest. If you had asked if it came with a transmitter and were told it did, then it would of course be a different story.

You should of researched what is required to fly model helicopters prior to purchase....... you seemed to be a bit "wanting" as to what to expect!!!

Not in this case i'm afraid. His answer to your question was totally correct and honest. It is unfortunately your misunderstanding of the terms and the equipment. If someone asked me if it had a receiver i would say yes..... I would at no point think to have to point out the difference between a transmitter and a receiver to the purchaser. They are 2 different things obviously.

You can be frustrated sure.... but not with the honesty or integrity of the seller. It is more like... lesson learnt for not knowing the difference between a transmitter and a receiver i would say lol

it may be a good idea to get a dx6 with a simulator and then you can practise on the simulator before you attempt to fly the model
