  • Progressing to a "real" heli!

    Hi all,

    New to the forum. I bought a small £30 heli from amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to play with and really enjoyed it. Just wondering what people would recomend as an upgrade from this point and how much money to spend etc?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,if you want the best micro then check out the eflite blade mcpx bl.I started 5 years ago and would of loved it if it was about back then,it flies great.

    The best 80 quid I have ever spent in the hobby has been Phoenix Rc simulator

      Like Nick said, either go for a blade mcpx or 130. They will teach you all flying orientations and if and when you crash, they take a good hit. If you also get the Phoenix 4 flight sim with a spektrum radio, that will work on the sim and you can bind 10 different helis too it, so you will get used to how the radio works and feels. I have a spektrum dx6i for sale, was my first radio and brilliant. Hope this helps

        +1 on mcpx (v2 or BL) or 130X. They may look similar to your heli size-wise, but they really are the next step up.

        Check out : RC Helicopter Reviews

        and here's the 130x in action ...

              MCPX all day long, they bounce when you crash them and are great fun, I wish I could of had one when I first started ! Equally the 130 is just as good but tends to break very easily on impact which becomes a little tedious when learning !

                Ok so MCPX seems to be recommended! thanks! Is it advisable to learn with something like this before going bigger?

                Are the sims realistic? Is it worth buying a dx6i and phoenix before even buying the heli!?

                        +1. I wouldn't ONLY buy the sim without a heli as (for me), the sim, whilst realistic in the physics, just FEELS like a computer game. Hence I find it quite boring. The fun for me comes from the real thing - outside enjoying the (occasional) sun! The sim helps - no doubt. But I think given you've already got, and can fly the V911 - I would get the mcpx/DX6i combo first and enjoy the (real) flying! The sim helps more I think when you progress beyond 450 size.

                          looks like i missed out on the sim! Is there anything to look out for when buying 2nd hand parts/helis/radios?

                            Thanks. BTW, whats the number rating with helis? e.g. "450 size"

                              There's no real rule as such and different manufacturers differ, but for electric helis, it's related to the blade length.

                              450s = 325mm to 360mm blades
                              500 = 425mm to 500mm blades
                              600 = ~600mm blades
                              700 = ~700mm blades ... etc.
