  • Spektrum DX7 or Futuba 6EXH

Is the DX7 really worth the extra £100 over a 6EXH for a complete noob?
Will it take me a long time to get the benefits of all those extra features?

    Situation:
I've ordered a Trex 450 with Futuba TX, but the dealer has just suggested stocks aren't arriving so the DX7 is a good replacement (£100 more!!!)
I've also just watched the Ray's Helitech DVD and he also raves about the DX7 (mind you he was comparing it to the DX6).

I have already blown whatever budget I had, but I will invest if it will make my life learning the hobby easier.

On another note, will the DX7 or 6EXH work better on Phoenix, as I'm having lots of trouble using the Blade CX2 TX to learn the Trex 450 or 600?

    Cheers

No real fly time yet (Phoenix 1-2 hours everyday)

I own a DX7 and I've set up a few helis with the 6EXH and in my view there's no contest, the DX7 is a far better radio and is more fully featured than the 6EXH. The 6EXH is a very basic heli radio and I've always found it a pain to setup, it would be easy to outgrow once you get to the stage of using gyro gain and a governor. The DX7 has a much better menu structure and has more features and you can grow into it.

      Thanks for the advise.

Does the quality of the Tx matter in Phoenix? Can the extra trimming features be used in a sim, or does it matter at all?
As mentioned before I'm struggling to use the Tx that comes with the CX2 to hover any Trex. Stick input need calming down for my heavy noob thumps .

as the man says you wont out-grow the dx7 for a LONG time.. and yes they are easy to use and program,, go with the dx7 mate i know £100 is a lot of money but it beats spending £300ish in about 8-12mths!!

          Hi

There is no question the DX7 is a step up from the 6EX but you might want to consider the Futaba FF7 on 2.4G, the Futaba Fasst works very well and the FF7 is a close competitor to the DX7.

          Cheers

I've just realised the Futaba 6EXH isn't 2.4Ghz can someone who knows more confirm http://www.futaba-rc.com/radios/futk58.html ?

Damn extra H after the EX, why do manufacturer do this?
If it is how can it work with a 2.4 Ghz Rx as I have been told & sold?
If I'm correct, then the £100 upgrade to the DX7 all the more tempting.

              Confirmed.
You want this transmitter if you want the Futaba 6 channel 2.4ghz version.

Dont waste your money on the futaba 6ex it has a current major problem,
I used to own a futaba ff9 and changed over to 2.4g ive had no problems at all with my dx7
                and would never go back

Go for the DX7 mate, no contest in between the 2 and deffinately worth the extra money, you won't need to upgrade for years, were as with the futaba you will soon be questing for something more advanced.
I waited my self for the dx7 to come out when i had the option of the 2 and i am very glad i did.

I started flying with the 6ex (35mhz but basically the same)it was a pain going through the menus and setting up but it got me flying ok,but then the tensioner on the right stick failed and it was returned under warranty and fixed F.O.C but I bought the DX7 while it was away being repaired as I just couldnt wait for it to come back and have never looked back with the DX7.
The 6ex is only a spare now but I still use it on the sim all the time.

The moral to my rambling on is to buy it once and buy right,I wish I had.

                      Thanks for the replies.

I'm almost there with the DX7.
Which servos to go with DX7, AR7000, GY401 on the Trex 450?
                      The HS65-MG or Spektrum DS821?

The DX7 is a very fine radio but if you are looking for a cheaper option the Spektrum DX6i is going for half the price of the DX7 at the moment.

Have a look at that option but I would recommend the DX7 as first choice.

What he said ! they are under £100. They are only a six channel radio, but fine for electric helis.
