There are so many answers to this. Rather than name a specific heli or brand, I will give you some advice ...Originally posted by aron View Posthi I am just wondering what is a good beginner helicopter as I want to get in to the hobby I was bought a thunder tiger raptor v2 but i think it is not a starter helicopter any help thanks aron
* Start basic - helis get crashed a lot in the early stages of learning. Don't succumb to bling that adds nothing functional that will just get broken. 4-channel fixed pitch helis are the sort of thing I'm thinking of.
* Consider a simulator (ie. Phoenix v4) to learn in the virtual world - crashes are then free!
* Do your research! - Start by reading (most of) this site : RC Helicopters, The Most Fun And Rewarding Of All RC Hobbies.
* Don't go TOO cheap. You want a heli that you can get spares for .... you will need them!
* Read up about radios and why a good one is important - probably more important than the heli (see site I just mentioned above)
* Search this forum! This question has been asked plenty of times!
For the most part - in the last two years, the state of the art hasn't changed much.
* Before you buy - canvas opinion on here.
And no, a TT raptor v2 isn't exactly what I would call a starter heli (though, I suspect others maybe disagree
). Again - have a read of that site I mentioned!

you wouldn't have asked this question a few years agoOriginally posted by aron View Posthi I am just wondering what is a good beginner helicopter as I want to get in to the hobby I was bought a thunder tiger raptor v2 but i think it is not a starter helicopter any help thanks aron
as the begginers helicopter was either the hirobo shuttle or the raptor 30
but if you think it is too large to start on then look at the smaller electric models
as you already have a collective pitch model i'd look at the 450 size models
eg trex 450, thunder tiger mini titan, blade 450 etc
but look at whom you will be buying your spares from to see if they stock the parts for your chosen model
and buy and use a simulator to learn on (not play about on)Hirobo Turbulence D3
a bunch of bls servo's and a 701 gyro

Nowt wrong with a Rappy as a beginner heli. Super stable and really easy to fly! As has been said do your homework, and dont be afraid to ask seemingly daft questions. We were all beginners once!!
There are a few good guys over your way you could team up with and they could give you some initial lessonsSome say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod
