I'm looking to purchase a small heli to practice inverted flight, flips, rolls, tic toc's etc, to save risking damage on the bigger heli's and not sure whether to go for a new mcpx bl or s/h 250? Any opinions welcome to help make my mind up would be much appreciated.

Hi, go with the mcpxBL, they are cheaper than a 250 and if you crash you a likely not to damage anything. Knowing this you will have more confidence and be more willing to try new manoeuvers. I have a 250 and they are very hard to work on especially due to the screws. Hope this helps.

Go for the mcpx bl, I've had more fun with mine then any of my other Heli's. you can just pick it up put some packs in your pocket and go out in the garden or park and if you do crash 9 out of 10 times you just pick it up and fly again. The only thing is it has to be pretty calm outside as it soon gets blown around by the wind. I've got a 250 and are a pain to work on and if you crash they usually need all the normal bits like blades main shaft etc.Last edited by Leo77; 01-09-2013, 07:09 AM.

MCPX bl or ALIGN 250?
The mcpx and 250 are different classes of machine. The 250 is just a shrunk 450, and consequently won't handle crashes much better than a 450. BUt, it will fly far better, and more like a big heli. The small helis like the mcpx and nano are very twitchy, especially in wind.
The 130x is somewhere between the two - variable pitch, torque tube tail means much better flight characteristics, but light weight and linear servos with U bend servo rods means ALMOST mcpx like crash survivability.
For outright best compromise between flying ability and crashability, the mcpx BL takes some beating.
Personally, I learnt inverted first on the sim, then mcpx, then 130x, then 450 upwards.

Yup, different strokes for different folks! Perhaps just try complete flips first, the slow it down and pause longer and longer in the inverted position.Originally posted by mark_w View PostI learnt on my 600, get it nice and high and go for it. Much more stable than anything small.
Sim first is a great way to train your thumbs though!

I would say get the MCPX-BL also,
But, I am a fan of the 250 as well.
Trouble is that there is a pretty small window of circumstances where is has any advantages over a 450.
The rabit up the sleeve of the 250 is if you need a propper helis to travel with, fits complete in any suitcase along with tranny & spares.
Flight wise I would much rather fly the 250 than a MCPX-BL, its more precise & feels like a proper heli.
But given what you want it for I think you would get the most out of the MCPX-BL.
The 250 taked crashes pretty well actually (Not expensive to fix), but is fiddly to work on.
You get certain extra confidence with the MCPX-BL knowing that if you hit hold before you crash you will probably get away with no damage.
Tim.
