  • Severely stripped socket screw for my T-REX 450

The socket screw inside the main rotor holder has been severely stripped and will not come out. I have already tried 2 methods, the first method involved putting a blob of super glue on the 1mm allen key(diametre o;f the socket screw) and letting it settle, this failed because the glue was not strong enough when i twisted the allen key. The second method included using a larger scale allen key(1.5mm) but this did not work. Below i have attached an image of the stripped screw. Any methods or ideas of getting this screw out are greatly appreciated. I really need help on this!

      first of all
welcome to save the flybar foundation

try an imperial allen key to hold this one and undo the other side
if this fails drill off the head and remove the spindle
then replace the spindlem the bolts and the bearing that you've been drilling by
i would be a good idea to replace all of the bearings and not just the one

Hi Rob, well that screw head looks well knackered...
Is it unscrewed at all? If so, you might be able to get a junior hacksaw blade in the space between grips and head, and cut through the feathering spindle..
Try heating it all up with a hair dryer etc to soften any Loctite. Try to grab it with pliers, cutters etc, then unscrew the other side (remember the feathering shaft is free to turn, so you have to hold one side still while you unscrew the other side).
Otherwise you will have to get someone to drill the head off the bolt, then pull the blade grips apart, check the bearings & replace the bolt and shaft and prolly bearings.

Easiest way is drill it. Feathering shaft bolts are M3? If so use a oversized drill bit, say 4.5mm. Make sure it's new and sharp and go slow. Once the head of the screw is off, pull off the grip. You will have plenty of thread left to get some grips on to remove what's left.

Oh BTW, while drilling, make sure you hold the other sides bolt to stop it from turning.

The thing is, I have just put a brand new feathering shaft in their already...I was reading different instructions and i missed out 2 pieces i needed to put in. I had to take it out again but i stripped the damn screw. I dont really want to try the drill method, although it feels inevitable. Hacksaw method didnt work. that socket screw is almost completely mushed.

Thanks for all your help guys.

If you're careful you won't damage anything with the drill.

If you have the tools then a diamond or straight dental bur could cut a slot in the remaineder each side of the centre-line then use a flat-head scredriver to undo it..looks too inset to attacj with a dremel disc. Those burs can be got to fita dremel..use plenty coolant or they blunt fast..burst spraying with wd40 works as coolant

Well, yes - but there is a serious point here...

If a person asks for help on doing something, and various suggestions are made; it would be good if they posted which method worked, etc.

"Thanks, I got it out" is nice. "Thanks, I got it out by doing such & such" would additionally be helpful.
