  • Interceptor 400 problem annoying

I have a annoying problem with my int 400 on lift off it turns 45/90 degrees anticlockwise and it drifts a lot to the left so within 5 secs of lift off heli needs a lot of control to stable it .

I know that it takes time to hover correct but surely the helicopter should take off bit more stable than this ?

I'm new to this and would like some set up help.

    I'm using DX6i

    D/r expo set 100-30, 100-30, 100-20
    Gyro pos 0 - 70% , 1 - 50% keep in 0 position this correct?

    Any advice would be great.

You can use trim on this helicopter to balance some of the drift (a few clicks AILE to the right).

It does need a lot of control to keep it in one position, I've got one and don't find it as stable or encouraging as some of my other helis.

Definitely got the pitch sorted and swashplate level?

Does it turn and then hold itself or does it keep turning?

Try winding the D/R down a bit, 10 at a time until you find a setting that works for you.

    My DX6i settings are:

    DR/EXP
    AILE: 50% - 20%
    ELEV: 50% - 20%
    RUDD: 80% - INH

    GYRO:
    0 - 80%
    1 - 81%

    THRO CURV
    0 - 0, 45, 80, 80, 80
    1 - 80% all across

    PITCH CURV
    0 - 40, 55, 70, 85, 100
    1 - 0, 25, 50, 75, 100

      Thanks for quick reply.

Yes on take off it turns and seems to hold ok?

Should i bump up gyro settings bit higher?

Yes pitch ok and level swash from what i can see... what affect would this have ?

I seem to have throttle and pitch curve ok smooth take off and light landing too.

I expect the rotation on take off is because you don't quite have the tail servo set up properly, so that it isn't centred at the correct position for hovering. You need to set up rate mode on the gyro (less than 50% gain) and then adjust the tail rod linkage so that the tail holds in rate mode without rudder input.

I see you are in Portsmouth so local to me. Happy to meet up and I can walk you through the process if you'd like.

            Jason

I run an indoor helicopter club that meets in the village hall in Knowle Village at 8 on a Wednesday evening. That might be the easiest place to meet up.

            Cheers, John

Hey bishbash, helis are usually setup with everything level at mid stick on the controller, if the swash isn't level, the heli will drift forward/backward/sideways as if you were putting a small stick input in. Even when setup level, heli will drift due to the spin of main blades and the tail blades compensating for that spin. If it always drifts one way, no matter which way wind is blowing, adjust with trim on controller, then adjust linkage rods when you get home, then take trim off controller and try again.
Stick gyro 1 to 30% so there is a definite change, have you set up the tail? You need to tell/program gyro to see end points and mechanically set mid point. 70% sounds high enough for gyro, maybe check there is no binding throughout the tail.
