  • Im new 450 help

Hi all im very new to heli's. A freind the other day offered me a brand new century GL 450 in ali box RTF for £50 and i could not refuse. Since then iv been very excited iv been out and got a cable for phoenix so i can practice on the pc(42" plasma is more relistic). Im starting to get the hang of flying the t-rex 450 pro on there in high wind and landing roughly where I want to after flying off and doing a few flips.

Basically I don't want to trash it fist time out so iv been doing allot of reading so far iv come up with get a better TX ie dx6i and swap the gyro to a gp750(got my eye on one). Iv havnt the faintest idea how to set one up tho. The other thing people seem to do is swap the tail servo to something a little more substantial. Iv also read alot of terms about setting up the heli up and adjusting linkages to balance the blades etc. I dint get the manual with the heli so Im a bit stuck for info there any help or guides would be appreciated.

If anyone has any of the things I need for sale it would be appreciated. Thanks (Please don't slate me for buying a GL450 Iv read enough of that already lol)

Hi Itaylor88, welcome to the wallet emptying sport haha. First off you can download manuals off tinternet and print them off so you've always got it handy. Just search google for your heli manual. Good work on practising on the sim, it will give you a good idea what your thumbs are supposed to be doing, but it will not prepare you for having your heart bouncing out your chest and the 4 minute breath hold that real flying will require. That's the buzz of the sport, every new thing you try will have the same effect haha. Once you sort a manual, I'd suggest taking the heli apart and going through mechanical setup, first to familiarise yourself with what goes where and second to make sure it's set up soundly and squarely. Then you can follow the Chinglish instructions as best you can to set up the electronics. The beep beep setup on the gp750 looks bizarre at first but when you get your head round it, it's really quite simple. Check youtube etc for run throughs to help guide you through it, but make sure you double check so you have right settings for your heli. I wouldn't worry about changing tail servos till you need to, for basic hovering and pootling about it'll be fine.

hi, mate, your GL450. is this one from Century UK, if so go to there web page and look through info there is a good set up guide on there, spares etc aswell. but after a while you will set up as per other 450,s and learn as you go. best of luck

Well after a week of training on phoenix and upgrading to a dx7 and put an align 780 gyro in and then spending hours working out why the swash wasn't going in the direction i wanted it to iv finally cracked it. had here out today got the final adjustments made to the gyro. Got here up in the air hovering lovely im so pleased with it. just gonna wait until its not so windy to be a little more adventurous. I don't know if il have problems in the future but the tail servo seems fine the was quite a brezz on my maiden flight and the tail was rock solid and swings from side to side very strongly. I know from experience with rc cars one tower pro servo can be a totally different quality to another . hopefully iv just been lucky with a good one.

Ps there is only one club in a fair distance as far as i know and iv been told by a few people that they are not very helpful and just like being there little group. any way I find it more satisfying know you have done it your self although it can get stressful but that's what google's for.

Welcome to the addiction. I derived a lot of pleasure from building my trex 450 combo and setting it up without any help apart from what I found on the internet. I learned a lot more when i joined a club though.

I am an old boy and I have been learning for nearly two years now. I am just getting to figure 8 and circuits. I still get quite a few heart pounding moments. I don't know whether they will ever go away.

The manual will be useful for when (not if) you have to rebuild it.
