  • Getting back in to heli's

Hey the time is right to get back into this hobby at last. I've got myself a new DX8 and now I need a Heli. I've been looking at the MCPX Brushless as a way back in until I can go for a 450/500 size Heli. I've had the V2 and was wondering if the brushless is a good why back in. Or would a 130x be better? I have a back garden to practise in at the moment.

    Thanks for any help

You will get lots of people giving you pros and cons to both the 130 and the mcpx bl (bet you're surprised at that!?). My opinion is that as long as you don't chase the perfect none twitching and none vibrating model, the 130 is ace. It has kept me going in this hobby. I'm no longer afraid to crash and it files like a bigger bird.

For the extra tenner, the 130 is the way I would go.

      Getting back in to heli's

      Hi thanks

I just can't decide between them I have read the write ups on both and the posts on here but I just can't make my mind up.

I had the original mcpx and although I was and still am a noob, but i find the 130 is easier to fly (handles bigger, easier to see etc) but crash costs are around the same.

you will pickup a 130 for around 130-135. It flies good out of the box but upgrades are there for the weaker parts when you break them. As I said, you will have people who love and hate both.

I've not flown the mcpx bl but I've heard while its good and very powerful, it doesn't fly quite as well as a 130X. The 130X needs a bit of maintenance and takes a while to get used to its 'ways', but I'd say the 130 is the better option. I love mine, its been teaching me loads and my flying has improved no end since I've had it.

An another vote on the 130x. Since it is bigger handle the wind better plus because it has driven tail it feels like the big birds. If you fly it over grass it survive 9 out of 10 crashes.
Parts are not bad unless you go mad on upgrades. I fly mine stock apart some necessary upgrades like metal pitch slider and linx tail blades. Just make sure you get a hand full of batteries as one never enough...

A month ago I would have said steer clear of the 130x, but having got used to its "foibles" and dialed in some D/R & expo, it's actually not that bad to fly. Parts, as has been said, are ridiculous money for their size, but that's eflite for you. Good luck with your return anyway.
              Cheers,

mcpx is pointless when you can have a 130! Costs basically the same to buy and repair and the 130 flies like a 450 (well almost ;P)

In my Suggestion go with Blade 130x, The Blade 130X remote control helicopter comes as a Bind-N-Fly package with an AS3X flybarless control unit, 2S LiPO, brushless power and a torque tube driven tail. The Blade 130X is a 100-class RC helicopter capable of inverted flight and extreme 3D aerobatics. Loops, rolls, tic tocs and hurricanes are a breeze with this micro helicopter. Suitable for indoor or outdoor operation this is the best RC helicopter in its class.

I was debating this last year. In the end i went the 130 route and never looked back.

130x.... no contest for me personally. The 130 imo flies like a much bigger "proper" helicopter. The Mcpx Bl has very odd flight characteristics imo. You can get used to it, but why bother when the 130x is going to progress you much further.

My return to helicopters has been very recent, the last six months or so. I bought a GiantCod 450 since I had already more than enough radio control, servos, lipos, chargers, and even lots of gyros. You do need a lot of peripheral equipment so the £30 helicopter is just the start.

In my case it worked well, even though its a poor design, since the bits that break are cheap and very quick to replace from UK and HK suppliers. The key is to work fairly methodically through the learning process. Not only is there a building and maintenance learning curve, but also the flying to master, and then finally, an inventory process to fathom out. The last is best explained as a process where you learn which bits fall off or break most readily, and gradually improve the quality you buy, or learn to avoid such damage. For example, the 450 regularly breaks tail bits because the supplied skids are so low. So buy the next size up!

Nothing substitutes for hours of practice and self inflicted experience, not well meaning advice, shop-keepers recommendations, or the "choices" of free-loading sponsored pilots.
