  • 106mm Rail tail blades

Just received my rail tail blades (5.9g each - is that correct?)
But I've found that it's damn TIGHT in my 700e DFC tail grips!
How can I fix this? can I sand the blade roots down?

is it tight b4 you put the bolts in? reason I ask this is mine are tight but seem to work fine but others use a longer bolt as the bolts supplies are too short therefore making you nip em up too much

No - not a problem with the bolt. it's the width of the tail blades - too fat for the tail grips. and I mean it is TIGHT!

what do people do in this situation? is it ok to sand the root of the tail blade? I'm not impressed with these Rail Blades neither - one blade has the writing all smudged!

Mine were exceptionally tight too. I have read that it is not uncommon. I sanded the roots until I could get some movement.
              yes they are that light!

Hmm, so should I just sand them or should I try and return them?
This is the smudged blade but unfortunately this is the same blade I tried sanding the blade root

Mine were tight too. You could send them back I suppose but you only need to take the tiniest edge off with a file/sand paper and problem solved.

                  Up to you really!

^^I did try to hover last night and put it up to Idle 1 and 2 (2050 and 2150 HS), the hum wasn't there so hopefully the tail blades have fixed the hum problem but the thing i'm worried is the tightness - I'm not kidding - they are damn tight! you cannot just rotate the blades with 2 fingers, you have to use force! If sanding the blade is the normal thing to do, then fine, i'll do it - but if not, then tell me so I can find out what to do as these are obviously my first aftermarket blades experience

If I did sand/file them - wouldn't I be making the outer layer too thin and might be exposing the foam or what not inside?

Give the supplier a call and explain your problems and concerns along with the steps you've taken to try and remedy them.
You've got nothing to loose except the price of a call

I had some torsions 96mm on my 600efl once that were extremely tight they could barely move more than a few degrees each way. I just flew them were fine for a good 50 flights till I crashed them :P

As long as they are centred when you fly them the only bad thing that I can think of that would happen is they break if you do a dodgy auto / scrape the grass with them.

^^ as above if they centre properly and have a small amount of lead/lad ability youll be fine. The tail blades are less critical than mains. But that blade, and varying thicknesses shows the qc at Rail is pretty poor! And TBH ive some Torsions here im gonna send back for the same reasons. I think im gonna stick to V-Blades and Aligns as they just seem to work and I think Align have closely followed the construction of the V's as they fly very similar IMO, and definately look similar when you crack em open!
