My pro hit the ground for the first time today, not too bad after a year I guess. Not sure if it was my fault of the old battery letting go as it was puffed and red hot on inspection. Anyway I would like some advice on the main blades that appear visally ok apart from a little nick in the centre, but how can I tell if they will be ok for further flights? Is there a little test I can do?

it only looks small but its on the leading edge.i would definately bin it,the crack looks as if its running along the chord of the blade and id put money on it snapping if you tried bending the blade using a similar force it would see in flight
    Not worth the risk imo.

I'd bend the blade in line with the crack if it feels the same as the rest of the blade then all good add a bit of CA, job done :-)

        definately bin it imho...

It looks like a fracture.. and being at the centre of the blade.. and leading edge, I would not risk it.

The fact that you're asking the question might suggest that your gut feeling knows what you should do with it..... bin it.

But, you're hanging on for someone or a collective of someones to say, "Nah, carry on with it. It will be fine."

The choice is yours - £50 for a pair of new blades, or £300 for a severally damaged heli after a failure in flight, and maybe even some personal injury along the line to top it off as well.

Damage to the leading edge, carbon blade, no brainer, new blades required mate, looks a bad crack and could rip apart in flight

Personally I'd investigate this crack. Take a dremel to it and grind away at it until the crack is no longer evident. If you end up grinding too far into it then bin it.

However, if you have only to grind away a fraction of a millimetre, fill it, sand it and see how it turns out.

You'd have to rebalance the blades tho.

                        I would if I could.

Repair by replacement's the easy way out...I repaired this "crack" on my 450 CF blades some months ago and all is fine.
