Torsion Blades Burst open

They hit my shin as posted above, and I'm not making a big fuss about anything. My first post was to ask if I should have expected this to happen, to which the replies were no. I asked Torsion if they expected them to burst on the back. They didn't shatter! I never said that. The blades had ran down enough for me to consider putting my hand on the head button. I'm not a noob and I am an A cert holder (Yes, I know I shouldn't have done it.) Yes, they bruised me but I didn't think that they should have failed in such a way. I said I would post an update which I have. I won't be using them again, that's my choice.Originally posted by GravityKills View Postwell... I don't know.
If they come apart in flight, that's one thing. But when hitting an obstacle, I'm not really surprised. After all, in flight, the force acts evenly over the surface. In the accident, all the force is concentrated in a tiny spot, and on top of that facing in a way the blade isn't designed for.
If the blade had survived, I wouldn't have been surprised. But I'm not that surprised either that it shattered. If it were mine, I wouldn't make a big fuss about it (and probably be glad -that- it shattered).

no, you're not, and I didn't mean to imply you were. I'm sorry if this got misunderstood. Really, there was no criticism in my comment.
Maybe "making a big fuss" was an unlucky choice of words. Don't know, maybe that's something I would consider doing

Seeing as you (and many others) feel they failed unusually easily do you think it would be worth contacting them again to see if they would be prepared to compensate by means of reduced price replacement as goodwill rather than a free replacement.
It's difficult to know whether this would be worth it without seeing how you worded your original email, however I suppose you have to weigh it up against how confident you would be with these blades in the future.Rich

I have to admit that after we'd stopped laughing (sorry about that
) it really took a very close look at the leading edge to see the damage there at all, the real surprise was both how easily and comprehensively the trailing edge appeared to separate and how little sign of any bonding material there seems to be on the trailing edge.
This really wasn't a high speed impact and the most I was expecting to see was a considerable loss of pride, not the loss of a set of blades.

I don't want a replacement Rich. I do think they failed very easily and having witnessed others fail in flight I wonder whether they have build quality issues. My original email was aimed at questioning whether they expected their blades to fail so easily, in fairness to them they don't know whether I am just trying it on. They asked me for pictures which I sent but they could have been any blades so I didn't expect them to just hand over a new set. My point of posting is more of a warning that there may be issues with their build. I have had 3 sets of carbons which were great and also I still have a pair on the heli now. I just won't be buying anymore.Originally posted by Radbourne78 View PostSeeing as you (and many others) feel they failed unusually easily do you think it would be worth contacting them again to see if they would be prepared to compensate by means of reduced price replacement as goodwill rather than a free replacement.

I didn't see your original post mate, so didn't have the chance to comment. No matter that they damaged relatively easily and how we arm chair experts think they should be made and how much damage they should be able to sustain, the fact is they failed in unusual circumstance i.e. not in flight, but after trying to take a chunk out of your leg.
Take it as 2 valuable lessons.
1. Put your trust in blades that you think could take your leg off, not wimp out and split at the sight of your northern hairiness
2. Grow longer arms

hey Dave,
IMO, they should not have burst, cracked or shown any visible sign of damage from a spool down and catching your shin..... I have had one set of Torsion 600 Blades which are useless as the bolt hole has ovaled, although some people swear by them, i too, will not be buying another set.. complete waste of money if you ask me.
not trying to start an anti Torsion rebellion, just my opinion.........

Hi Karl, as I posted above I have had 3 pairs of carbons and I'm on my 2nd set of GF and I've had a good time with them. I'm not anti-torsion either I just think that they shouldn't have burst open the way they did. I'm not a blade expert but I've never seen any others do this in such a way. As Mark said above it was hard to see the crack to the leading edge but the rear burst open like it hadn't been glued. It's a shame but I won' be buying anymore.

Seems like another case of the bloody Modelling trade forgetting about customer service, and probably Trade descriptions (OK, maybe this MIGHT be arguable). I must admit to being a little surprised at Petr's response !
Who actually supplied the blades ?, your "contract" is with the retailer, not the manufacturer, personally I'd be screaming WARRANTY.
Another model manufacturer to cross of my personal "no go" list
Janek
Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

Having been in this hobby for a number of years i've twatted myself numerous times on the shins while being impatient and stupid, the last time put a dent in my shin bone (ok lesson learnt) never ever cracked/split a blade on my shin even woods that i learnt with.
Cross me off the torsion list!!!!
