  • What blades

    I need your advice.

I want to know what blades to go for for smooth F3C style flying.
I thought I had made my mind up but I'm not so sure now.

I was going to go for the Rotortechs but then I hear about the new CY F3C blades and also SAB's are supposed to be very good.I do have Align 690,Torsion 690 which are 3D biased but I got a set of 710 NHP Razor pros which are nice and stable but Im sure there is better to be had than these.

I have the right paddles which are the Hirobo's one's and the tail blades I'm sure are going to be fine but Im unsure on what mains to go with.

Mark C,I think I need another shopping list

I know he has got the good uns but want to see what else is about.Garry is going to assist me in setting this bird up so no doubt I will end up with them but,

I dont want to rush out and spend £120 or whatever they are on them if the CY's or others are as good.

I doubt it but it worth a try

F3C blades are normally heavy than 3d blades to increase the disc loading.

e.g. the RotorTech SG FAI weigh 220gm where as the 710mm 3D weigh 175gm

It in the end will come down to personal choice and the blades will have an effect on the headspeed you can achieve at low rpm.

The only thing that I have found is that it's damn difficult to find F3C blades, paddles etc in the UK!

It wont really increase disk loading, not by much, a small percentage if you want to nit pick (which is what I am doing hehe) but disk loading is disk area divided by all up weight, so adding a few more grams to that is not much difference.

What more disk mass is actually doing is increasing the inertia in the rotors, which increases the gyroscopic stability of the rotor system, more mass or more speed = more force required to disturb the disk, increasing the mass has the benefit of more stability without the downside of increasing the responsiveness at the same time, which increasing rpm would do.

So more spinning mass is good for F3C.

Thanks for explaining it better than I could.

I bought a heli that had bbt evolution 600mm on it and they were extremely stable and slow in cyclic due to their weight. Autos were amazing they seemed to spin forever. When I fitted radix I was nearly caught out big time on the autos.
I just mention these bacuse they do .90 size version and they are a fraction of the prices you are talking.
I guess they don't expect f3c pilots to crash and think they will be willing to spend megabucks on blades!

                      Hi Ben,

I'm running the radix f3c blades on my aurora and they are very good. I would say the rotortech 720mm aren't worth the extra £££s though they are good blades. Also the radix are much easier to get hold of!

Another cheaper option are the new sab 208's. These are a copy of the rotortech 720's but cut down to 700mm. I'm not sure whether motors and rotors have these in yetbut should be able to get them for you easily.

One thing to watch is that your engine runs well. All these 700+ blades are heavy, the radix 230g, and it's very easy to load up the engine if you're a bit brutal with the sticks!

                      Cheers

                      Mark
