  • Stacked the knight Pro last night - What blades to get

    As per the title really.

I stacked the Pro big time last night, it was all going really well. Loops, Rolls, stall turns a bit of nose in and a bit of inverted wobbling around somewhere near in one place.

Rolled out and went into a fastish circuit and the heli started twitching. I slowed it up and started to bring it back then suddenly it rolled hard right and went in hard.

All the usual bits bent or brocken, even managed to bend the battery tray and the fly bar holder.

All bits ordered, cheers EvoRc, BUT what blades to get now.

I had MS composite carbons, about three years old left over from when I was just hovering around. Now I'm starting to push a bit harder I'm thinking it's worth getting a bit better. Probably not going to be into full on 3D for a while yet.

    So what do people suggest???

i would be more concerned about why it "twitched and then banked hard right" causing a crash, what happened radio lockout ? bad servo ?

maniacs are good for the money about 15 quid cheaper than radix

From my post crash analysis, tricky to say. The right hand collective servo had a broken arm, although the central one had popped the link.

I'm thinking that the heli and kit is about three years old and I am now pushing it a lot harder than ever before. I reckon the servo arm might have cracked and then snapped.

Will be stripping it down and checking it over properly over the weekend. It's been on 2.4 for about a month now and it's been working great, probably 10 flights with 2.4 so far.

At least the sport is still going strong so I will give that a good going over and hope for a break in the rain this weekend.

I am using the silver 600's from Andy at Evorc - cheap as chips at around 37 quid iirc! They manage with similar manouvers as you mention plus tic tocs.

Yeah I was looking at the silver ones too, but they are out of stock at the moment or they would of been in my basket.

That got me thinking whether or not to go a bit more upmarket. Both my pro and sport seem very slow in roll at the moment. They seem to pitch ok, I'm talking about flips and loops rather than in forward flight. Standard dampers, standard paddles and cheapish blades. Flybar weights all the way in, probably leave them off in the rebuild.

I want to increase roll rate and flip rate but not wreck the stability in forward flight etc.

Lighter paddles (get the 3D ones) and loose the weights. Have you checked how much cyclic pitch you have?

Ade set it up all those years ago at -9 to +9 I think
                I haven't touched it since.

It's probably a good thing, I need to reset it all and get it set up properly again. I know a lot more about it now so rather than say to myself that is how it was I can actually do it.

It's good experiance to set up yourself once you understand the principles. I find I dont do it often enough, so unless I write down what I set up to, I forget the next time I re-build

+/- 9 is a lot of cyclic, so it could have been teh paddles, flybar length or the servo speed which slows the rate down.

                    NHP's.......

What are your eccpm values set at, you could always try increasing these slightly, (check for binding when you do ), then increase you rexpo slightly to soften the mid stick back to where you like it, giving you the same feel round the centre stick but an increase available cyclic at full stick.

Also another degree or 2 of pitch will make it more responsive, go up to + / - 10 and see where that goes

Another way of sharpening it up and increasing you roll / flip speed is to up your headspeed a bit, (somewhere between 1800 and 1900 ).

Bearing in mind these are all things that you can quite easy say, I don't like that, and put it back to how it was....
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

                    And a DX8 too

I used NHP's on my Trex 600E and they helped flight duration a lot but didn't seem to have much pop. I'm using Maniac blades on most of my helis now and fine them very good performance & price wise. The NHP's are quite a flexible blade, the Maniacs are some of the most rigid blades out there.

make sure you check your bearings when putting it together, if you have done a lot of flying and not checked them they are probably all pretty worn.

any clues as to what caused the crash? is the battery ok? have you cycled it recently?

blades, i dont think you can beat the silver blades from evo-rc for the money. i bashed em around trying to break them for about 6 weeks before getting the radix stick bangers

if you want to speed the sport and pro up do the mixer arm mod.

                              Cheers Ade,

Will look at doing the mod

Battery is a lipo and it's curently in a lipo sack in the middle of the garage with nothing around it. Was a little bent but didn't seem to be puffing. going to go and have a look now.
