Stupid question of the evening..

I'm probably going to show my complete lack of knowledge here but I've got a set of main blades that came with a fuselage, which look like this ImageUploadedByTapatalk1391894851.503595.jpg

My question is why? I'm curious to know why the tip design is like it is. I'm used to the straight blades of my Trex 500 and I'm making a departure for a scale Vario build
