Yes, I know! But I've spent all day today tracing a bad case of fuel starvation on my car which has had to take priority! And I'm on a long work week! Still, I think I've fixed the fuel issue (will find out tonight) so hopefully I can get stuck into down-converting and editing the video soon.....

At long last - the video you've all been waiting for:

Apologies that my flying was not as smooth as usual, but it was VERY windy!

Hey! 'Good to see the old bird in the air again. Video never captures the presence those helis have though, they have to be seen in person to really be appreciated. It's nice to see it flying :-)

and if you want presence in the air pop into a scale event
the hirobo looks very small compared to a lot of the heli's on the circuit

sad news of todays flying of my hirobo bell 47 g2
it had a tail drive failure whislt crop dusting at a fair pace
and the piro'ing heli went in backward with hold doing very little to help as the heli was too low to the floor
the tail truss is beyond bending back to shape this time, so i'm going to cut and replace the stainles tubes as needed

Bummer! I think Dave Nieman may still have a boom if you need it.

I had mine up this morning, re-fitted with the RXCel ignition. Still way down on power compared to the Hirobo ignition, but it starts a lot easier and doesn't seem to misfire as much. It has to be a timing issue. I'm going to have to play with it a bit when I get back from the European Champs in Germany. First step will be to try retarding it a bit, in case I've over-advanced it, though I couldn't hear any signs of pinking.

I need to work out a way of mounting the sensor so that the timing is easily adjustable. Thinking cap back on.......!

                    • i'm going to try and repair the boom as i don't think a new one is worth the investment on a model thats had one major mechanical failure a year since i've owned it
i do have another model the same that i can make a jig to get the length/shape correct
£20 in stainless tube and some silver solder is a lot cheaper than the oe offering
the hardest part i'm trying to get is some stainless the correct dia long enough
                      for the tail drive shaft

i've found the cause, the upper boom to top chassis broke off
by the looks of it it has been cracked for a good while hidden by the paint over it
and as the boom moved the tail drive shaft coupling came out of mesh = no drive and the heli piro'ing
if i was flying higher i would have had a chance to auto it but low and fast i'd got no chance

Sorry to hear about that. Hope you can repair it and get her back in the air some time... I need to check my boom before next flying again. thanks for the advice for fellow Bell47 G flyer.

Have you tried the archery supplier route. Arrow shafts are used in the Srimok and Synergy as torque tubes. What are the dimensions?

                              • i haven't looked to far into the tail drive shaft as yet due to me getting another scale heli ready for a comp i've entered in august
i was going to use my vario r22 untill i found the landing gear framework cracked on a pre-flight check today, so thats got to come apart to be repaired which isn't a 2 second job
