  • predator gasser carb settings

    Hi

I have been having a few problems getting the gasser set up .

I can get the engine started and idle is ok but then when open throttle coughs and sputters and will not pick up properly ,when lower throttle again idle has increased and when I take the plug out it is a wet black , I am using a 35-1 mixture.

Also I am trying to find out a rough idea of the position of the needle valves and also an idea of the throttle and pitch settings on my tranny.

Can any one out there help me ?????? please ?????

    cheers

1st thing DRY that Plug off, thats the problem. You should leave it on factory settings to begin with.

Now after say 20 flights remove the Plug you want a Tan colour black = to rich White is to lean.

The engine will struggle like hell until you change that plug.

I had a simlair issue cleaned the Plug she fired up on 3-4th Pull.

Throttle Pitch with Gasser's is more of a Flatter V for aerobatics vs Nitros.

So your Throttle curve might go 0,15,20,40,100

Forgot what my Gasser was now... I do miss it though

Your engine is running way too rich! you need to set the Low Needle ( marked L ) at 1 and a half turn out from closed and the High needle (marked H) to 2 turns out from fully closed. this is the starting point before adjustment. Test hover for no more than 30 seconds and watch for blurring of the fins and boom supports If you see blurring of the fins boom supports then the engine is Lean, so adjust the low needle richer ie. turn it out a little tiny movement and I mean tiny these needles are very vary sensitive to adjustment! keep working on the LOW needle only till you see NO blurring of the fins or boom supports while the heli is in the hover, only short 30 second flights at a time to ensure the engine does not overheat, cant stress this enough do not lean it out too much as the engine WILL seize very quickly! ask me how I know!! keep landing and looking at the plug till you see a nice nut brown colour! not too light grey as this indicates lean engine. Only work on the LOW needle to get it setup at first until you have a heli with no blurring vibration on the fins or boom supports THIS IS THE MAIN THING TO WATCH FOR!! NO VIBRATION OR BLURRING OF THE FINS OR BOOM SUPPORTS!!!!

When you get the heli hovering with no vibration of the fins or boom supports you are getting there! Do not move the needles too much at a time very very small adjustments no more than the thickness of your finger nail at a time!! if you are too rich you will have kicking of the tail and a dark plug if you are too lean you will have blurring of the fins and boom supports!! you need to find the exact middle of this state!! ONLY WORK ON THE L OR Low needle the one nearest to the engine !! Once you have all these things sorted you can look towards finer tuning on the High needle for climb out performance, when you yank the throttle open for a fast climb out and close the throttle quickly at hight you need to then adjust the High needle for no cutting or spluttering ! if it tries to cut at full throttle then you need to richen if it splutters and coughs then lean the High needle!

Once set correctly you WILL NOT need to EVER adjust it again! its a bit of a time consuming lark but once set, they STAY SET!!

Then just pick the heli up and your tx and petrol can and go flying for a full day !!!

      Hope this helps
