  • Tarot ZYX my thoughts and experiences

    Hi,
I have fitted a ZYX on version 4.1 on my hybrid clone/align trex 450.

It previously had an align 3G on it and it flew great. However a ZYX came up at the right price so I thought

    I would have a go!

First thing I noticed is its no 3G or 3GX. The cyclic is quite decent however the tail is awful. Actually it's terrible!
I would say it's similar in performance to one of these £7 Hobby King mems gyro like the Assan GA250.

It blows out constantly even attempting mild stick banging. and even whilst sport flying. I don't think a beginner would notice.
I have also tried adjusting the De-acceleration values and the other settings available but it makes little difference.

I would rate this FBL controller 3 out of 10.

So, its back to the 3G I think.

Just my thoughts, as I am sure some flyers have been able to get them flying well.

I have one on my GAUI425 (500 sized) and its okay (certainly no vbar ). I'm soon to be moving it to my 450, so i'll feedback, how i've got on with it.

Bizarely i have one of those GA250s also and I rate it more than the Align 780s I have on a 450 anyway

I have had 2 ZYX's, admittedly they were 500 and 550 size helis and they are both solid. A friend of mine, who generally flies it like he stole it, tried it out and was amazed at how it held. I have had to put 20% expo on the tail to slow it a bit, as the piro rate is ridiculous. For a 30 quid unit it's a budget flyers alternative I guess. On the other hand, my mate put one on his 450(HK/ Align clone ) and hated it!!! Horses for courses I guess!

I have these on 3 of my helis and I'm very happy with them - also have Beastx on a couple and struggle to notice any difference. They do benefit from a bit of inside knowledge on the set-up, but that holds for all of the FBL units that I've used.

What is the problem that you are having with your tail?

takes tweaking to get it right..this is the copterx unit same as the zyx 2nd flight and just getting the settings lined up...its definatly not plug and play but waaaay better than 3gx mate when it done

We got one also,my mate who knows the v bar well set it up for me on my 550 DFC and tested it,he said its identical to genuine article, logging everything, all the expert parameters I think he said and what's more it flew the same,so much so he has also ordered two from Hobbyking

once I got the tx from his hands I flew it to,I'm no expert but it was rock solid and a joy to fly, transformed the model from 3gx 3.1 for certain.

I have the ZYX on both my 450 and my Trex 600N and if performs amazingly well. I can stick bang really hard and the tail is locked in solid on both the helis. Must be the best bang for the buck gyro out there.......

Same as this... I prefer the ZYX over the 3GX. It's a little harder to set up right but in my experience, the tail authority has been better on the ZYX than on the 3GX... but it does take a fair bit of tweaking to get it right.

Tarot ZYX my thoughts and experiences

                        Time to add my thoughts.

I'm a vbar man. But tried the beast x and the Futaba 750. I fitted the copter x version to my 250 and after a little messing about to get the PID control loops tuned, it was the best it has ever been. Better than the beastX on bigger models . But I never did try and get involved with the beast after getting a Vbar.

There are some great threads out there for tuning the gyro.

I have a zyx on my 450. Its driving a 9650 with 5257 gear swap on the tail and digital hitecs on the swash. It flies really well. The tail is a lot better for hold than the CSM720 was with the flybar. IT has never blown out on me. I fly it quite aggressively.

There is, however, a suggeestion of tail drift that I don't see on my other helis with beastX (5000 and 600n).

Thanks for your response guys.... I decided to have another go and it turns out the rudder servo was f&*%ed. fitted a futaba 9257 and it goes great now. holds like a dream!

So My thoughts would conclude that it appears to be a great unit. Not quite as polished as a 3GX on 3.1 but very good!

So, its back to the 3G I think.

That is just so unfair an assessment of that unit.

I have had them on all my helis - 250 through to 600 nitro and they have done very well. A mate has one on a genuine TRex 500 and he's a real stick banger and its faultless.

What you haven't done - assuming you haven't got a faulty one - is spend time with the settings. If you are prepared to spend a whole lot of time at the field with your laptop tuning the unit to your heli then you will be rewarded with a FBL unit that's as good as any. If you don't, it won't work. As for not being as good as a 3G well get real!

Mikej has posted on this thread - as far as I'm concerned he's the man when it comes to ZYX units - message him off line and take up his offer of help.

An angry posting from me and I don't mean to offend anyone but I think its so unfair to condemn a product to the world, any product, when it hasn't been given a fair shot.

BTW I'm now all BeastX, LOL - Why? Because the time I spent at the field with the laptop was getting too much, I tried a BeastX on the 250, had it set and flying faultlessly (without laptop, just tranny) in about 15 mins. That was enough for me, I was a BeastX convert!
