Is there an easy way to know if this is set correctly. I tested it on the bench by spinning the heli around and it looked ok but when I tried to do one about 30 ft up today I thought I was going into a chaos.

I'd totally agree, both with the piro comp and BeastX comment.

I've been campaigning these Tarot systems on my 450 and 600n for a while. My flying skills are limited to pretty basic 3D stuff and there is no question they work at least for me BUT you have to be prepared to spend time understanding the myriad of settings, all of which impact on each other and then get them right. They are not fit and fly.

If you want fit and fly then you want the BeastX. I've just built a 250 up from bits and fitted one and it flew brilliantly straight away. I've been so impressed with it the Tarot has come off the 450 today and I've fitted a (Spektrum) BeastX. No doubt the 600 will be next.

Just like to say the tarot system isnt as bad as everyone says and isnt that hard to work out. Also mine flew straight off. Admittedly I do have a pyro issue though. Not that mine is set wrong but I believe mine is perhaps more down to my CoG being out. How much effect have people found the CoG to have on pyros and how do you trim your heli perfectly?

I agree it isn't hard to work out, its just a pain in the butt to get them working well. You say yours isn't set wrong but then say you have a problem with piros. I had less than perfect piros with the two helis I had them on - they were OK but not brilliant. The C of G on none of my helis is perfect either but piros are pretty well perfect with the BeatsX's I'm now using.

I maintain the BeastX is fine IF you are prepared to put the time in.

CofG need to be spot on, just move the battery around till its right, and to test the piro comp ( on beastx, cgy750 ) go to the setting that sets the piro comp direction, it should tilt the wash full punt to the left or right, place say a can of coke or something on the table in the direction that the swash has pointed at, spin the heli, the swash will stay pointed at the can of coke get the CofG correct, could even be a link that is ever so slightly long, or a servo horn that isnt 100% stright : just trail and error, go for CofG first and work backward towards the servos

Thanks for the advice. It piros better than ever now and is so much nicer to fly. I have always thought my heli was a little tail heavy but didnt realise the extent. A big clue should have been how the tail dropped in piros but as I moved the weight further forward it dropped less and less. A good way to check the CoG was to hold the blade grips and top of the headset and pivot the heli so it was laying horizontally on its side. If your CoG is off then it will pivot around the shaft and the nose or tail would drop. It is reliant on having a pretty friction free motor and tail drive though.
