  • Msh brain set level and rebind

I have rebound my dx8 to msh brain, does anyone know if this will affect the set level on the unit? I tried the self level this morning and it certainly seems to have

Are you using the MSH Brain with Spektrum satellites? I used to have an MSH Brain with DMSX sats on my Trex-500 (until the heli crashed and it got taken out by a piece of exploding helicopter) and the unit never really settled in. When it was good it was very very good - usually just after a check through the set up and/or a rebind - but every time I flew it the heli would react to the sticks slightly differently from flight to flight. Even flights 5 minutes apart in the same wind conditions. I know others have absolutely no problems at all with their units but no idea if they're on Spektrum, Futaba or whatever.

Yeh it's dsmx sat, I crashed the Heli rebuilt and the SL was slightly off, so have been adjusting it then trying it in the mornings, however, I done a rebind last night and now the self level is totally way off, so am assuming rebinding affects the set level function in the unit itself? I will reset it tonite and go through the SL setup again, just wondered if anyone else had experienced this

I never found adjusting the self leveling on the bench actually didnt help, it needed to be flying to get it accurate.

Don't use the pad that comes with it its no good if you have got a slight vibration, at our club we all use a double layer of the maplin tape sorted out many self level problems with this stuff.

Update: seems like it was a vibration issue, I tided some of the wires going into the unit and is fine now

Loz, I use some fairly thick tape and strapped the unit down with a cable tie (in a piece of fuel tube) the cable tie compresses the tape and the hold is secure. This fixed some minor problems I had. Done this on all my helis and it definitely works

I now have my Brain set up on my 550 DFC. I set the heli bang level and clicked level on the wizard, when i flick into bank 3 (self level) the swash tips back, so i have gone into advanced menu and set the swash level. Now when i spool it up on the bench and flick the switch the swash sits level. Am i safe to assume it will it do that in flight or will it be way off?
Big thanks to 'Raving Jim' for talking me through the set up the other night and getting me this far!
I can't believe how tunable this unit is.
                      Thanks,
                      Dan.

Edit: I set the blades at zero degrees, 50 in 50 out when i levelled it

Set the level again on bench with blades at 0, when you flick self level it will tilt slightly anyway , I wudnt adjust in the advanced at all untill you get it flying , take it nice an high an if it drifts slightly then make the adjustments , usually only tilts slightly depending on how we'll you got the mainshaft 90 degrees on the bench

Whatever they said about the brain units, the self level will suffer with vibes. flick it into self level at various head speeds as you spool up without blades on the bench, if it reacts the same (basically stays level) every time you should be good enough to avoid radical issues in the air but it will probably still drift.

Done the set up again and it now looks bang on. Two layers of maplins tape and a Velcro strap.
So I will see what happens. I going to concentrate setting up normal flight first and make any adjustments at the field before trying bail out.

Dan if yr swash is staying level when u flick into self level mode I'd say it won't stay level in the air from my experience, my swash tilts over to the right in SL which makes Heli level in the air
