  • V bar set up help please

Ok v baaaaaa gods I need help , and no I have tried the Samaritans !

I an setting up my v bar and have got to the collective and cyclic travel stages and basically although using align fbl servo discs on the inner holes, and the bell cranks on the inner holes I have way to much movement .

We are talking + & - 19 degrees pitch and + & - 15 degrees cyclic I am trying to get around 13 degrees cyclic and the required 8 degrees cyclic but to get this I have to reduce the v bar sliders to 70 collective and 68 cyclic.

The v bar requireds 100 to 80 on the sliders so what can I do ?... Smaller servo discs ? Or can I reduce the TX travel adjust.

    Help please
    X Rachel

You can reduce the distance on the servo, easy enough.

What model is it on, none of my Aligns have been that far out.

      What heli?

I would bring the links in on the servo horns and/or use smaller horns.

TX travel is all for setting up the V-Bar to 100% and should not be changed after that. At least that's how I use mine.

It's an odd ball a JR Nex 50 nitro fbl

The reason I didn't want to go smaller on the output horns is the futaba 4 horn discs mean I would need to use subtrim, the align discs have lots of holes and built in offset .

        Thanks guys :-)

Obviously you have too much mechanical throw

When you say you don't want to use 4 way futaba horns ,as you don't want to use subtrim ??
You should be able to spin the horns until you get a nice 90 degree to the servo without subtrim

As regard you values being out of the vbar loop

I had the same problem with my trex 700 N
So went out and purchase the E AIL bellcranks & ELE A arm to get me back in the vbar loop
          (70s to in the 80s I think)

Did it fly any better , did it f**k

You don't use subtrim for centering servos with V-Bar it's done in the swash set-up area, either way it's nothing to worry about .

You can also fit shorter balls on the swash to blade links, I had to do the same to use the Vbar on the Rave,

But does it not say in the setup menu when centering the sliders you may have to use subtrim? reason i ask is im setting one up too so don't want to get it wrong and i've already done what its says and used subtrim

When you set up your transmitter, you use subtrim, no-where else.

If you need to get the servos level, go to the swash page, and use the tool there to level the swash.

In the initial "transmitter set up " section you must use subtrim to get ) at center stick and then use the travel adjust to get 100 / 100 easch way.

Just for interest I usually need about 30 is on the subtrims to get 0 on the V bar.(Jr radios)

The subtrim I was refering to was done at the "Cyclic " stage which you can set using the arrows but I am "Old Skool" so I prefer as pure a mechanical set up as possable :-)

I cannot recomend enough buying on line , the smack talk video on V bar set up it answers most questions , and its a couple of pounds.

Thanks will have a look, think its more or less done, I did use subtrim when centering the tx but wasn't to far out, the rest of the setup was straight forward

Theres a very good Smacktalk video on the VBar which you could download. Bert Kammerer takes you through it. Cleared a few things up for me. From my knowledge you dont touch subtrim or travel adjust as thats for calibrating the radio to the Vbar unit so that you get everything 100% (as Laurence already pointed out). This is one of the first adjustments you do before anything. After its done you basically dont touch them again. Only way to do it properly and easiest way (without effecting other things like geometry etc) is to go in on the servo wheels/arms. You should be able to get it setup perfectly by experimenting with diffrent types of wheel/arms.

interesting point someone told me at the weekend, not sure if its the same for all radios but I was told Futaba are normally just about bang on with subtrim and endpoints. where spectrum does require some adjustments.

I can only speak from a spectrum point of view and my radio/vbar have never been spot on to start with.
                              All the best
