if i get a bluetooth module for my vbar what am i going to be able to do, as I am really struggling to find reasons to buy it

Hey.

As Andy's said above, with two BT units you can change the name and passcode of them. I copied this from HF;

"Hyperterminal should work.
If you have Windows7 or a version of Windows that is missing Hyperterminal,
Hercules is a free serial port terminal program and works well: RS232 terminal, serial port terminal, udp terminal, tcp/ip client server - Hercules
It has directions in Englich, Czech, Spanish and German
Basically click the serial tab
Choose the port #
Send "AT"
Should get "OK" if connected ok
Then Send "AT+NAMEnewname" (no space and "newname" replaced with new device name Vbar123 or whatever)
Should come back with "OKnewname"
Send new pin as:"AT+PINxxxx" replace xxxx with new pin#
Sould come back with "OKsetpin"
That's it."

Definetly you must keep the name to "VbarXXXXXX" such as VbarTrex700E for example.
Your PC connects to one BT module by bluetooth and through the Tx & Rx wires it programs the 2nd unit.

Hey Buddy.

Everything apart from firmware updates, as it is has been removed from the bluetooth interface to assure safe, hassle free upgrading.

The best thing is while out on the field you have no need to actually touch the model to make changes, which makes setup much easier and quicker.
You can have a quick fly, decide you need to make some changes and land, whip out your phone/tablet & make those changes, before taking off again for another test. Simples :-)

For those not so confident in setting up a BT module themselves, if there's interest I'd look into buying a couple and reprogram them to individual requests for a small fee to earn some beer money. I remember someone did offer similar a little while ago, but they've stopped now I think?

If you only have the one unit then you can leave it connected permanently. Whilst out at the flightline you can make changes without having to wait for the model to spool down. You can check for vibrations live whilst the model is actually flying. If you are trusting of a friend you don't even need to land for any of the gyro parameters to be tweaked!

It eliminates the need to take a laptop to the field. It eliminates the need for the control panel. A BT module from ebay costs about £8 and the app £5.

Android app only. Something about Apple not releasing details of the bluetooth connectivity or it doesn't have it.

It is possible since iOS4 but needs a licensing agreement with Apple, $4 fee per device sold and an authentication chip fitted on each device. This also means you need a special bluetooth module that can handle the Apple authentication process.

The same (licensing fee and auth chip) applies for wired connections to the large plug at the bottom of Apple devices.

+1 they are so so easy. i was down the field one day and the tranny wouldn't connect, android out, re bind and i was away. could have meant no flying that day
