  • Mikado Neo Setup

I received my Mikado Neo's today so went about setting one up.

Packaged similar to the Silverline with usb cable and a large amount of tape.

The quality of the unit looks good and easy to read labelling.

PC setup straightforward. Log yourself in to vstabi first then fire up the programme. Leave the what looks like a bind plug in the sensor port then hook up the usb and turn the power on. The software does the rest and looks for any updates. Register the unit to your account and name the Neo is you wish which is great for knowing what Vbar is in which model.

Then go to applications and decide if any you want. It's all up front and tells you the cost and redirects you to a purchase page if you decide to buy an app. Once Thats done the unit should update, if not interrupt the power supply and it will via the already opened programme.

Wiring is simple this time negative to the bottom of the vertical slots. Nitro throttle goes in the ESC port.

Setup is as before and straightforward. You can't cheat and load a V6 setup it doesn't work. I tried to see but expected as much. I had to re centre my cyclic servos in the trim but the throttle and tail were the same. Nice touch NO tail servo is selected on initial setup and throws are only 40. Probobaly seen a few people burn servos out on setup before!

Gov setup is intuitive and slightly different. I deleted the nitro gov app and installed just the neo nitro app. It's so must easier to setup and offers a few other options for direct control assignment or no direct control. You just assign to a bank if you want it.

Bailout is super easy. Just assign to a switch in my case switch 1 in the spring position and set a collective figure (default 65) amount of climb. That's it all of 30 seconds.

Headed to the field in to the hover and as expected perfect. Gov behaving and internal sensors only on my nitro no drifting or random stuff. Flew around and all a bit tame so upped tail to 110 still a bit slow, reduced style to 80 on main rotor and expo to 5 and agility to 100. A bit more to do on feel still not as snappy as I had before.

Checked out bail out. Just flipped the switch. No need to hold the switch in the position just let go of it and bailout activates. It levels and climbs right way up its that simple. I tried all sorts of stuff and that's what it does. If your fast it's aggressive in it appearance and in a pyro flip nothing to right home about nice and controlled. It times out when it's achieved level, right way up and climb.

So for the first few flights I'm pleased with it and it works as expected but a bit simpler than I was expecting which is a bonus.

Loaded 550sx stock setup out the vcontrol an hardly touched the swash leveller , the rest was spot on endpoint wise , took me longer to charge a battery for flight than wire an setup

          Wow

Will the non Vcontrol setup for bailout be as easy? I suspect possibly not, but hopefully not too far off.

Puts the nightmare of the HC3SX into perspective.

I'd say nearly as quick , assign a switch an the factory default settings should work out the box if your heli is set geometry wise correct , there is a calibration menu but it wasn't needed , transmitter menu is rapid

              Mates,
What is the weight of the NEO with VLink? Also if it writes in the manual, the power consumption?

What's the blue 'bind plug' looking thing for that seems to be plugged into the sensor port on all the pictures I've seen?

You leave it in and it knows to check for updates when you go online. Remove otherwise.

Ah good, I thought they'd done something silly with the external sensor bypass. Don't know why I should know by now they wouldn't do something so stupid

With the NEO nitro gov did you notice any differences in total servo travel while doing throttle endpoint setup. Asking this as on my throttle servo once the set up screen gets in the region of 95- 100 ish there is no more servo travel at available at the servo even if I move the amount up to 120. Also seem to be able to get more travel in throttle direct as well compared to 6.0.

+1 you need to add the app to the tx.
