  • Beast X tipping on landing

My N5 tipped after I landed today and I'm not sure why. Running v3.

Took off, flew around nicely no issues. Landed under power and put the stick to idle, as I did the heli tipped left. No damage, just a couple of bent pitch links and the elevator arm grub screw.

I can only imagine it was the same thing as if you move the cyclic on the deck when taking off, only once I had landed I must have move the cyclic left??

    Any thoughts?

Given the choice I'd flick into throttle hold and settle her down. Landing under power is always risky due to vibes with the heli on the floor. I had this once before and the advice given to me was to end with a tiny auto or once you touch down immediately bring the stick down to full neagative which cuts the throttle, pins the model to the deck and slows the head down asap (less speed in blades means there will be no inertia stored up in the blades for the Beast X to tip the model over).

Now I normally land and give full neg quite quick, but this time I didn't, did it fairly slowly and over she went. Mini auto sounds like the way I think, not long had FBL so just having to relearn take off/landings!!

sounds like possible vibrations confusing the gyro, also could have knocked your cyclic, if you flick ur cyclic whilst you till have any momentum on the blades, the machine will try and pitch itself in the way of the imput

if you hold down even a small bit of cyclic input then the heli can tip.... this is the only thing to watch out for in my experience. a small input on it's own won't do it - it has to be held. The FBL controller will then keep trying to fulfil this command up until you have full pitch on the blade, even if you only have the stick a small way off centre, which may be enough to tip the heli depending on how much the head speed has decayed.

I've never had a problem landing under power on any of my FBL heli's and I tend to do both types of landing fairly frequently.

It is possible you got some ground resonance and the resulting vibrations fooled the gyros, but I think that generally results in a tip right on the beast X, not to the left.

Vibration/setup, not knocking anyones seting up, i have seen and had a 'tipping' myself it seemed to be due in both these cases to the rx not locked in to tx properly/loss of signal. the ground handling has been improved in the V3. all my Beast X'd helis auto slide no problem not even a twitch! skid bumps too. +1 with Zeeflyboy useualy spams out to the right, also to much neg pitch on the ground could exagerate any vibes to the fbl unit resulting in a 'spamout'

                cheers
