I've just been talking to my contact at Bavarian demon and he told me in the UK only it seems the 3X model is a big secret that nobody knows.
So to clarify, as I have been asked the same question more than once, the 3SX unit has the "Rescue mode" and the 3X unit is virtually the same unit without "Rescue mode". But the 3X is only £190.
So I'll copy and paste from a PM here rather than keep repeating, as I hear other explanations on t'interweb are a bit vague.
There is a video, but it's hard to see really, we tried making one ourselves too, it's not easy to show the model and the TX and as a viewer you can't really see when it is in "Rescue mode".

I have a DX8 and I use the top right switch, basically the one nearest my cyclic which I can't miss in an emergency.
There are 3 flight modes:
1. Normal flight -- Which I have mid switch
2. Rescue mode -- Level and climb which I have in upper switch position
3. Level only -- which I have in lower switch position.
In normal, it just flies like a 3X, for level and climb you choose in setup whether you want it to always level right way up or nearest way up, I use nearest way up, when you hit "Rescue mode" it levels right way or inverted and adds about 6-8 degrees of climbing pitch. In levelling only it feels to me just like a GPS controlled heli, your collective stick behaves normally and the heli levels when having no input from cyclic, although it does drift with the breeze unlike GPS.
I find myself taking off and landing in levelling mode, just to help avoid those nasty tippy moments during spool up, or descending into a rut you can't see and tipping over on landing.
I've used the level and climb in anger once, lost orientation, froze a moment then just hit the switch.
Also as an experiment I put it in "Rescue mode" and spanked the cyclic around as the stick overrides the unit, despite my best effort to get it down, she just kept on climbing, very clever stuff.
See, clear as mud
