  • Just curious; gpro quality?

A guy at my local club was having a few problems with his heli setup and as soon as I saw he was using the Align FBL unit I figured it was the problem. But now I think it was a worn servo that may have been causing the problem. I've tried a few FBL units and found some better and some worse, ease of setup is usually the biggest differentiator but the 3GX was a non-starter utter rubbish. So my question is; is the GPro that much better? Why?

ps. I'm all vbar now and not thinking of changing. I'm just curious about whether Align still deserve the bad rep that they have for their FBL units.

No problems here. GPRO works fine for me.

Heres someone checking the ruggedness of the unit following some issues, just ask ChrisB

            Hey buddy.

As someone who spent ages with the original 3G, then 3GX and a Gpro I can say with complete honesty the Gpro is deserving of a try by anyone. It does need some refinement, Align have left it hanging a little in favour of quads at present which is annoying, but setup and flying wise the Gpro is a good candidate.
If Align come back to it and work out the slight kinks in an otherwise good little package, it will be even better.

I found out very early one of its major issues and that is that it's a power hungry FBL unit, not many could see this but it soon became apparent when they were pointed in the right direction.
It's not necessarily a problem as long as your power system is up to the job and the Gpro is not alone with a higher than desired power requirement, other FBL units are the same to.
As Align spend time refining the current package this issue will fix itself.

I would say if you have one don't be worried about trying it, you may be pleasantly surprised at its performance.

That is ridiculous. What is the point of doing that?

I think Chris had so many issues that he moved on, not sure if it was him that totalled it but take a look at his posts on it and you might get why

It's a bit worrying to think that these controllers could have issues with being dead on delivery. I have never had a problem with Gpro but it would be a concern if they are badly assembled to the point that it's pot luck whether you get a good one or not. That would indicate that they have the potential for an in-flight failure.

I do know that the one thing that will kill them dead every time is connecting the power supply incorrectly, but beyond that, they should not have problems. At £125 for a new one, they are not a mickey mouse unit. Not too sure whether this is a confidence knocker or not.

Have gpro on all 4 of my helis, can't fault them, ease of setup won it for me, and the fact you can get them around the £60 mark is a plus

Just set up my first Gpro yesterday and was amazed how easy it was. I fly Futaba and used the Sbus connection to reduce the number of connections going to the receiver...So far so good as they say.
