  • Gpro on 450L

    Hi All,

Just wanted to see if anyone using Gpro had any issues with the tail servo intermittently not responding ?

It hasn't done it in flight YET! but has done on the bench and now twice when going through the setup and come to the tail setup points and the rudder wont respond.....

    Thanks

    Hey buddy.

What firmware are you on? V1 did have a tail bug that caused it to momentarily stop following fast tail reversal changes. However V1.1 supposedly fixed this.

I had it do it in flight mate, i went for right rudder and it went left for a split second then shot to the right, just seemed woolly and inconsistant, i had it in beginner mode as new to helicopters and just had 9th flight, went back into setup, all looked good, so raised gyro gain to 40% in AVCS mode and duel rate from 70 to 80% had 3 more flights and no problem, may just be me but it seems more controllable, maybe because i had radio settings turned down plus put in learner mode it may have set things to low, dont know if this will help that was just my experience.

        Thanks for your replies...

I'm running a dx8 and the HH gain is at 58 in my TX and rates at 100... Coolice I am currently running V1.2 which I believe is the latest according to the align website. Its been great to fly apart from this tail issue and a little kick back on tail stops right rudder only....

        Cheers

Had this with all my helis, you need about 8 degree tail pitch then try again & you may find you may need slight more or less adjustment, you adjust it to get equal feel both ways then adjust gyro gain to as much as you can before tail wags.
As Ian (coolice) mentions I've also had it on the newer versions more so if you don't have the right head speed unless your running gov I'd suggest head speed at least 85% flat line, in norm mode would get away with 0, 80, 80, 80, 80. Pitch 37, 43, 50, 75, 100. & iu's pitch linear.
On my tx I've found it better to have the 3 gyro gain setup for each flight mode to compensate the changes in head speed when switching between iu's, my 600 on gov is fine having the 1 gain setup for each iu.

            Evening Mate.

Ah good, you're on the latest firmware.

I know some issues have been reported back to Align to be written out in later firmware's, we are awaiting patiently for them to finish off their quad work and get back to the Gpro refining.

The bounce back can be fixed as Jim has said above, 8 degree's is a little too much however, usually it's 3 degree's.
What is meant by this is that the tail trim should be adjusted while flying in rate mode, in this case adjusting the length of the tail pushrod to get a hands off hover while in rate mode, then switch back in heading hold mode and fly.
Basically this is the fix for the bounce back on stops from hard piros, the only explanation I can give to why is that I think it's because the tail already has the right amount of pitch to compensate for the torque reaction, rather than shooting past it when a pilot releases his yaw stick and then having to compensate for the sudden stop commanded.
Then once this is done, you can mix out electronically using the PC software any mis-match in tail piro performance due to the tail pitch offset now set.

              Evening Ian.

After tinkering for the afternoon and speaking to A few people I swapped the tail servo into the gpro with a cyclic servo and the tail servo still stopped operating. Apparently it's the servo potentiometer so when stopping at centre (deadband) it sticks until I move the servo.

Hopefully will get a replacement this week and get back flying next weekend if the weather allows...... Will setup the tail as you have mentioned and hope to finally like the gpro as only got the heli for Xmas.

Thanks everyone for all your help....will let you know how it goes.

I had this issue on my 450l. When I stopped tail input it would kick severely to the right. Mine was poor tail geometry and got rid of it as Ian said by hands off in rate mode
