  • 3G drifting issue??

    Hey guys,

My 3G sytem on my 700 has developed a drift on the tail

In the hover the tail drifts slowly to the right and won't hold centre. Tried all known remedies including gyro gain, resetting the system and end points and ensuring no obvious vibes through the mechanics.

Any ideas... not sure where to go from here but may have to bench it in the hope that the new firmware will sort.

What Tx do you have? Have you checked that the monitor is showing there is no trim at all? I didnt have any trim/subtrim on my tail at all, yet my DX7 showed there was.

Had that on my Velocity (DX7), I re-programmed another model and all was fine.

Good shout paul... no trim showing but a model re set may be worth a bash

Drift to the right can be a symptom of vibration affecting the sensor. It fools the sensor and the gyro puts right input in.

Check that everything rotating is dialled and balanced on the heli,

Situating the sensor behind the mast can help and experiment with mounting pads.

Flew my 700 with the 3G today and I also noticed a terrible tail drift as well!!! Never noticed it before but it was worse when inverted. It was however very windy this afternoon at our club with a side wind.

I have however ordered a GY520 gyro for both of my 700's from Fast Lads and will change my Radix 710 SB's for the new Radix FBL 710's. Hopefully putting a tail gyro back on it will also cure the tail wobble as well.

Definately a gyro issue with the 3G

There may well be some vibes there that i have not found and it was windy but its the constant pace of the slow drift thats odd.

One things for sure.... the gyro set up out the box is far too sensative and we should not have to consider swap outs to remidy.

I love the way it flies when on song but the upcoming updates will need to sort these issues out for me to re build confidence in the system.

The tail sorted... and its a winner

Having read you have just re-built you 700 after a crash double check you have no "Sticking" ball joints or a sticky tail pitch slider Mark.

Release the tail linkage rod from the bell crank and be sure it travels free both ways end to end.

I'll wager its a mechanical fault rather than the 3G system that "DID" work prior to the crash.

We did a quick check over at the field and could not find an obvious mechanical issue but needs a proper check over

I had this on my 600 after its crash, turned out that the torque tube was too tight, causing the gears on the tail too mesh tightly. Only found out when I removed the main gear and turned by hand. the small vibrations obviously upsetting the gyro

                    Hello,

                    I'd look for vibrations.
                    - did the engine bearings survive the crash? On the 600, I broke them several times by crashing.
                    - is the engine exactly aligned with the frame? Usually "as far down as possible".
                    - - is there threadlock on the "unused" part of the four screws that hold the engine?
                    - - and / or threadlock on the surfaces of the engine itself or the frame's mounting blocks?

I found that those need to be cleaned with a knife when assembling the engine. And ball link pliers are good for cleaning the screws (hold with the "notch" that is meant for holding pushrods, then turn with a key).
Another sign for a badly aligned engine is that the starter shaft doesn't turn smoothly when turned clockwise.

After Corfu, I've been chasing this problem for about two days myself

i had heard somewhere that people were starting to plug standard tail servo's back onto 3g systems so that the 3g no longer controlled tail only.

I too see a little drift sometimes and that with a leccy heli and almost no vibration.

When is this firmware update available then...???
