3G power bus worries - easy 90p 2 minute fix using JR extension leads

Sorry if this is old news, but just in case - I read around about concerns over the power bus for larger heli's, this doesn't seem to be an issue on smaller heli's, so on my 250 and 450 I haven't worried about it, but now have the 3G kit for 500, and 500 ESP on order, so thought this was big enough to be worth doing something about.

I ordered two of the shortest JR extension leads I could find - cost 45p each, and I have used a pin to remove the power lead/pins from the extension plugs, and inserted them into the Align 3G servo plugs for pit/ele (which only have signal wires) - the JR pins slot straight in perfectly.

UPDATED: as others pointed out, there is only one power feed from ESC anyway, so this is probably a complete waste of time ;-(

I am not worried,the whole system is supplied by one wire from the regulator or ESC anyway.

For instance the Align 2 in 1 regulator for Nitros only has one servo plug/wire output to the Rx to power the whole helicopter.I have beat the hell out of my fbl 600`s and 700`s V Bar and 3g supplied from the Align Reg and i have no concerns over power supply but agree anything that can improve matters and ensure a good supply is good.

Yes. I had exactly the same thoughts when I put the 3G system on one of my 700's. I have therefore bought and fitted a Scott Gray Reactor X2 voltage regulator. I now feel much better in knowing that there is sufficient power going to my cyclic servos.

Thats what i like about the Jive ESC`s on my electrics because you have a secondary power input to the system.I personally feel very confident with the 3g,i have read about people having issues but i am sure they have sold a load of units.IMHO the 3g is sound and no more likely to fail than a V bar or any other onboard device.

Only problem I see as a bloke well versed in Align electronics is that when it goes tits up you have to pull 2 wires rather than just 1

Sorry but don't know what the old one was like as this was the first one I've bought. The X2 seems to be working just fine although time will tell!!!

+1 on a Scott Gray Reactor X 2 i fitted one when i done my V-Bar on my 700

The real problem is with FBL and people forget is your amp draw to the servo's is alot more i think Mikado say over 15 amp or more.

So a align 5 amp reg will be well under for the job.

Plus i like the way a Scott Gray Reactor has a fail safe.

I asked Fast Lads when i was looking for a reg and they said it was now sorted, I've not had a problem with mine but to be safe i mounted it on foam also.

You can also run your servo on HV if you wish 6.8 volts.

another option is the elyq reg. the servos wires pass through the reg so not only are they powered directly by the reg you can run them on a seperate voltage to the rx and flybarless unit, anything from 5v to 8.4v whilst the rx stays at 5v

The Scott Gray Reactor X2 is the same. You can run the servos at either 6.0V, 6.8V or 8.4V whilst the receiver is powered at 5.4V.
