  • Going 3G FBL on the 600 with Edge blades

Now the dust has settled on the Align 3G system launch, there seems to be two clear camps both in favour and unsure on the system and if its for them.

I Love the 3G on my 700 and had no issues getting it dialled in. Ive not tried dedicated FBL blades as yet so today i commited further to my FBL interest and ordered a kit for the 600 (Thanks Concept Copters) and some Edge blades for both the 700 and 600 machines.

I know Tim (Busterboy) has raved about succcess with the blades on his 700 and there is excitement over the pond on the whole range.

There has been little discussion on the 600 and FBL so far so who is flying it and with what blades?.... i suspect it will be more prone to bounce and require the best mechanical set up to dial this out..... FBL blades could well be key to getting the most from this combo too.

    Thought gents?

I am running the 3g on my 600LE,610 cyclics and Align blades supplied with LE kit.

I have got my gains at 1100 and it flies superbly.

There may be a very slight bounce but it had a damn site more bounce with the flybar head fitted,a friends flybar 700LE has a massive bounce too so i wonder how many flybar fliers dont actually realise they may have bounce on elevator if you search for it.

The 3g one my 600LE has transformed the model IMHO and i love it.

Very keen to see what yours is like, but even more keen to see what the edge blades are like.
Personally i am still undecided on the fbl, not helped by a sick engine that has now been swapped out for another yesterday so hoping that will be the start of something great, but not going to invest in special blades until i am sure it is for me or not.
As for my 600, dont really want to spend money on it really, as my money later in the year might be destined for other things like just running 90's but we shall see.

          Mark,

When i was up the other week, i was flying the Edge blades on my 700. Chris has flown mine and i am sure will agree that it really does fly nice.

I am no authority on how good/bad blades are, but the difference between the Align 690's and the Edge blades is pretty significant.

I have also seen chris fly his 600le with std Align blades, and it is just as good as my 700. The bounce is only there if you force it and look for it.

You wont go far wrong with the Edge blades. Also, and no word as yet the Align Firmware upgrade is due soon, so who knows what issues this will rectify??

          Rgds

You will be able to give the heli a good testing James and with our set ups identical bar the FBL and blades it will be a great back to back.

I'm excited..... think it will be a stonker

Just to add it was Aidi`s 700 that convinced me to go for the one i have on my 600.

Aidi`s 700 seemed very good when i flew it before he fitted the Edge blades to it.I did not fly the Edges but i watched him flying it and agree they work really well.

This is my 600N/NR57 used combo I bought from Martin (rcslopesurfer) a few months back with Align 3G fitted. The airframe has been stretched to accept 620 blades (Maniacs) The NR57 is running the Outrage pipe at 2000 H/S in the video.

It defo has an elevator bounce and yes when Fly-barred it has a bounce too, but not nearly as obvious. Overall its very good.

My main gripe is in Piro moves. In Piro flips at low/moderate speed and being soft on the controls its fine, but up the piro speed and coarser control inputs esp when you reverse the Pitch Pos/neg I can get the tail bouncing up/down through the rotation at will. London Eye where you are harder on the controls shows it up too. Tic-tocs exhibit a bounce but you can mostly 'Pilot' it out, but not all.

Aerobatic Autos are surprisingly pain free as long as you retain a little reserve H/S.

If the H/S is a little low you have to be gentle on the controls or risk the 3G overcontroling and drag the H/S down quickly. Its not severe but something to watch for.
In flight It tracks better than stock, loops are truer and it feels more locked in. Control inputs are nice and sharp.. are 'cleaner' and balanced without being a handfull.

Your also going to loose the ability to do 'Shaky Stix' crack flying if thats an issue, but that applies to FBL generally Edit..I'm talking bollocks It does ShakY Stix

I do like it..but wont buy a 2nd/3rd etc..It's fun to keep your interest in the Sport but at the end of the day the Pilot with the best thumbs wins..

My other thought is it shows up any wayward control inputs a lot more as the response is very direct and makes small mistakes more obvious.

                Enjoy Brian

We all saw Aidi fly and we then all saw James I liked the sound better of the Radix. Yes we know James fly's Harder then Aidi. Sorry Aidi but James didn't bogg as much. Even with a off engine.

Mark you have seen my 600 Flybarless a few times. You almost brought it
I find it less stable in the hover. But I am getting to like it more and more.
You could of bound your tranny to it. I could of bound mine to a 700
                  Cheers Paul

There is no doubt at all the Edge blades certainly sort out any bounce on my 700.

I have my gains both Ail and Elevator set to 1 O'Clock now, That's higher than the 12 O'Clock / 50% default value they come with.

The thing is rock solid in transitions and stops now.

The only bounce I got was in this video at the end.

Some great feedback there guys and it seems the Edge blades allow mor gains as per intended from stock so thats a good thing.

Looking forward to having a play and if it suits my flying like the 700 3G then i think its a winner

Easy to convert back if not too

I have to say, i love the simplicity to the whole heli too.... less to break and slop etc. Just looks right to me.

Will be very interesting to see what the new firmware offers too

what control rods are you guy's using on the fbl heads?
as my sceadu keeps bending the rods
i aimed to track the blades then when i know the perfect length of the rods fit a carbon sleeve over them for strength but as yet i can't stop the rods bending to set the correct length
i've tried the std hirobo and 2.3mm quick uk rods but both do the same
so at the moment i put the flybared head back on

They are certainly thicker than the stock rods that's for sure.

                              Doesnt mention the thickness here
